Can I have manual hubs on a 4R with ADD?

Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out how to get manual hubs on my ADD "equipped" 4Runner? I'd really like to
reduce wear and increase mileage (every mpg counts!)

Sure you can. Just find a set of manual hubs from any '96-'94 IFS truck or 4Runner and bolt them up. You cannot use the hubs from '79-'85 solid axles as the spline count is different. You may also need to get the hub nuts (two each side) and lockwasher from the dealer, but those usually aren't too expensive.

Be aware that any shift-on-the-fly capabilities you have will be inoperative unless the hubs are locked.

Toyota p/n's:

Locknut: 43521-60011
Washer: 90215-42025
Gasket: 43422-60020

Kind-of a hijack- Is there anything wrong with leaving your manual hubs locked all of the time, druing daily driving? Just curious as to what effect it would have.

No different than having ADD. I wouldn't worry about it, I don't.

Sweet, cause I have random moments when I'll see something I'd like to drive over, and I need to be in 4wd, cause my tires are balder than . The owners manual says to drive 10 miles a month with them locked to make sure everything is lubed.

You'll probably notice a small vibration in front which is normal.

Yes, you can simply swap the manual hubs in. But I think the best way is to swap out the axle shaft that has the sliding collar. That way you don't have any ADD components on the axle. However, this is a LOT more work.

No, nothing really wrong with it. I have not unlocked my hubs for over a week, but that is because we got dumped on by a snowstorm. I wouldn't leave the hubs locked all year round though, because it is an unnecessary drag on the engine.
