CALLING ALL SMART 1st GENERS

My bright's on my 87 4runner havent been working for some time. I have to get it fixed before I can renew my registration. I already replaced the headlamp switch in the steering column but that didnt help. Mechanic says its the combination switch which runs about $200 from the dealer. Anyone have experience with this problem or know of another way to get this part besides the yota dealer. I searched this already but didnt get a good answer.

Thanks y'all

By combo switch does he mean the turn signal/headlight switch that's under the shroud? I've never heard of that problem before but definatly check out the salvage yards first. Try to find a 'pick-n-pull' to save some extra coin. Not positive but the same year pick up should be the same part. I think the relays and fuses control low and high beams so the combo switch sounds about right. Good luck.

Yep easy fix, then consider adding a headlight relay kit to take the load off the tired combo switch:
