There should be a recall on the 3.0s; all owners are required to dump a 3.4 in - payed for in full by Toyota of course.

Acceleration does matter in my opinion....if it really didnt then Toyota will still be sticking the 3.0 into trucks. Instead they are putting 240-250 HP v6's and 280ish HP v8's into their trucks/SUV's.

I cant believe that is 0-60 time. I thought it was 1/4mile times. Thats kinda scarey. I never driven a 3.0 but I couldnt imagine not being able to merge onto the highway in less then 15 seconds.

C&D must have some of the worst drivers ever. Even at high alts.

Acceleration isn't what 4wheeling is about though, the 3.0 has enough low end grunt to 4 wheel just fine. The reason they're putting the bigger engines in is because there are less enthusiasts and more soccer moms who want to race every car they come to a stop next to. The only thing the masses are looking for are 0 - 60 times, quarter mile times, insane horsepower that shouldn't be used on public streets (especially with the lax licensing occuring here in the states) ... blah blah... For people that want a speed racer, buy a 2wd truck, sports car, or sportbike and get it all hopped up. 4wd trucks aren't for street racing. That said... It probably has a great deal to do with the drivers at C & D. I can merge just fine on the highway, in fact, I take the highway everyday to work and merging is no problem AT ALL.

Exactly. Take a look at the other times of more well known vehicles of that time and that should be an indicator. Like I said my Auto, 3.0, that is 600lbs heavier than the norm STILL does 0-60 in 13s, and should do the 1/4 in around 19 or so.... I will be putting it on the track for some fun numbers just to see....

And saying that accelleration doesnt matter is insane....there comes a point when not being able to accellerate quickly is dangerous - such as highway merging, or passing on 2 lane highways when someone decides to be a jerk....

That time has to be based on the Auto tranny. I had a 92 ext cab 4x4 PU on 33's and it would get to 60 faster than that with the manual tranny. Had a 95 4runner as well with an auto and it never seemed that slow. Don't get me wrong the 3.0 is a dog in acceleration, but it wasn't that bad. The only situations that scared me were pulling out from a road onto a busy intersection with traffic coming both ways, that got a little hairy if you didn't judge the distance of an oncoming car just right . I would never give up the 3.4 for it, but it wasn't that bad.

For all you complaining that power doesn't matter and people shouldn't care, try passing a big rig loaded with camping gear up a hill at a high elevation on a two lane road sometime...or just sit behind him and let him fling rocks on your front end.

Or, how about a big rig or a moron with a trailer merging into in traffic right into the side of you? If you have no power, your only option is slamming on the brakes or swerving. Wouldn't it be nice to push down on the skinny and leave the perp safely in your wake? Heck yeah.

yea, but the 3.4 (imo!) is good enough for all that. most people when discussing power are discussing outrunning vipers.
