That's one heck of a deal. Time to save my pennies. Glad they are one 3 hrs away from me, no shipping cost then.

Just got this from C.B.I.: They use 3/16" and 1/4". 1/4" for all the mounting and structure and then 3/16" for all the skinning and aesthetics. The recovery points use 3/4" and all of the tubing is .120" wall except the spindle which is 1.5" solid and the spindle hub that is .250" wall.

The price will indeed be in the $600.00 to $700.00 range, just for the bumper, the swing-away is $350.00. So all together it is $950.00 to $1050.00. CBI is trying to keep it under $1k for it all. The next one will tell them where the price is depending on how long it takes to build (1 to 1.5 days). Give them a call and tell them you want the Chaplain bumper.

My order has been placed! This is the rear bumper I have been waiting for. Brant at C.B.I. has been great to work with. He knows the product well and is very friendly and professional. Can't wait to get it on my 4Runner and get the remaing 2/3 of the factory joke of a bumper to the scrap yard. The factory bumper is really better classified as a trim piece, not a bumper

More pictures

Finally got the tire swing-away painted, wired, and installed.

Here it is unloaded:

Detail items installed:
Liences plate light so your not pulled over.

Double sheer hindge will help support the weight and make it last.

Form follows function with the locking handle. You know how all the other guys complain about their swing-away rattleing or the failing, this one wont. I plan to run a bike lock trought the holes of handle and swing-away for increase security.

Backside unloaded.

Backside loaded; now you know what all those tabs are for (shovel, breaker bar, floor jack and handle). Remember you saw it from CBI first.

Next stop: chasing/prerunning baja 1000.

Thanks for the pictures Steve, the bumper looks great. When you get your spare mounted up would you mind posting a picture of that here for us?

Did you request that configuration of tabs, or is that the standard setup?

Thanks again,

Clark

You should cross-post this in the 3rd Gen forum too. It's definitely relevant, and probably would be appreciated by folks waiting for a rear bumper like this.

Did you end up reinforcing your frame? If not I'd look into doing that..... your gonna bend it with that much weight in the back.

Hey Chaplain, I am purely curious here, but is there a reason that you chose the swingout to be on the drivers side versus the passenger side?

Very very nice bumper!!! Are those shackle tabs welded on the back side too or just on the face?

Only thought I have...don't know if the finished box has a drain or if it is weather tight, but I can't imagine water sitting in there would be very good..But love the rest of the bumper
