thats nice to know about the recall I didnt know that.I was looking for 01-03 because of price im trying to stay around 10k. from what ive found price wise if you go any newer the price jumps considerably. im looking for a truck to hunt fish pull my boat. but be nice for the long road trips. I have a 86 runner now that is a great for hunt and fish but I dont like it for the long trips. I live in southern il but if I found the right vehicle I would travel

I bought my 2000 Tacoma a few years ago with 125,000 miles for around $8000.00
Test ride was fine it all looked good 4x4 worked high and low.
About a 3 hour ride home as soon as all the tests cycled the MIL was on.
Needed new Cats and the rest of the exhaust system just got replaced because.
Like all my other Toyota vehicles it needed a $ 1000.00 or so to catch things up.
First winter took out the right middle of the frame in a few months.
Fixed that so far so good.
I also painted and sealed the rear differential housing which seems to rust if left alone
Then there is the normal timing belt some people dump the vehicle if they need to pay labor to have it done.
A truck that old unless it was only driven on sunny days to Walmart is going to be at the age suspension and steering parts Brakes etc .
These things should be taken into account when talking about prices if you need to pay labor for this parts alone can be expensive.

after reading about the frame issues I will either look for a truck that has had the frame done. or look for a truck that lived its life away from salt. im not worried about general maitnance. but the frame rust I definately don like
