Bushwacker cut-out on 91 4-Runner ?
Has anybody put the Bushwacker cut-out fender flairs on a 2nd generation 4-Runner? Bushwacker does not make them for my 91 4-Runner but I believe the front fenders are the same as the truck. I can purchase the front cut-out flairs and install them but the rear is where the questioning is. The problem could lie in two areas. The first is the gas cap door is located to close to the wheel well. No problem, I can do body work. I will move the door and gas filler. Now the main problem, the back of the flair where the bumper is. On the 4-Runner the quorter pannel stops short since the bumper raps around the body. On the truck this does not happen. What do I do?? Does any body have any suggestions and bushwacker part numbers on the specific flairs I need to order to do this job? I'm hopeing to here from someone who done this or a good Toyota body man who would know about these details. I wonder if the flair would hit the back door?

I was going to buy the cutout flares at Central 4WD and they quoted me around $1000 installed because of the cutting and reshaping of the fender lip to reuse the liner. They looked again, and determined that on the 3rd gen pickups there was actually no cutting required at all. The rear flares would not likely fit because you guys have the rear passenger door there, while on a pickup there is only the bedside. I have the "Extend-a-fender flares" not the "Cut-outs" as I believe that Corey has as well. I am sure that he will chime in later.

I checked out Corey's site ant it looks like he put the extend-a-flair on. They are easy but I'm looking for the rough look. My tires would stick out to far if I used the extend-a-flair. I gota go with the cut-out bushwacker. Thanks for the lead anyway.

I have seen them on a few 2nd gens before.
They are HUGE and have these rivet looking things on them.
The fronts as you said will fit fine, and the rears will need some doctoring.
There is a member on the forum with them on his 2nd gen, but it would take hours to search for his profile.

I saw those on an ebay rig one time quite a while ago. Not sure if used fronts or rears for the rear, but he just cut the flare, mounting part of it on the door and the balance on the rear fender. Not sure how he handled the interface with the rear bumper, but I know those with regular Bushwackers and custom bumpers just cut the flare flat across where the bumper started. There is a badass 2nd Gen out of AZ with an SAS and custom rear bumper that is a nice example.
I also have the extend-a-flare ones like Corey. (Matte finish though ). The extend-a-flares add 2" (I think) of width. I'm running 15x8 wheels (1" wider than stock alloys) with 3 5/8" backspacing (5/8" less than stock), and 33x12.5R15 BFG M/T's (2" wider than stock). So, I'm 2 5/8" wider per side. I *might* be stricking out 3/4"-1" upfront and less in the back.
What wheel/tire setup are you running? Being in PA with you, I'm guessing you are concerned about the fender laws here. I just passed inspection with my current setup.

Corey,
Thanks for the contact. I will be doing it no matter what it takes.
Cebby,
I'm going to use GM wheels with their standard offset but the rim will be deep dished, 10 inches wide mounting a 35or33x12.5x15 tire. I'm puttin on a trailmaster 4 inch lift which prevents me from using the toyota stock wheel or any toyota wheel which the dish sets back into the suspention. As you may well know when you use the trailmaster kit it moves the upper ball joint up 4 inches and if you would put the stock wheel on the ball joint would go into the inside sidewall by about 1 1/2 inches, so, I have to use a rim that has a dish out and extend the body. Sorry I do not know the inches at this point. I will let you know if that is important. In Pennsylvania no tred may stick out past the body but the buldge of the tire may. The cops check this by placing a dime verticle against the fender lip and letting it drop If it hits the tread it's illegal. Don't nobody reply with(Park in a hill)

I have the part #s and info on my website in the mods section for the Extend a fender style flares.
They come two ways, shiny black like mine, of the textured black.
Also the shiny ones are bought in two sets with the fronts being universal to also fit the '89 to '95 trucks, and the rears will only fit a 4Runner, unless you get the truck ones for just the trucks.
The textured ones come in a set of 4.
Fever, looking forward to see what you have planned.

haha,
To answer your question on the extend-a-flares, they are the bushwacker brand that Codey has on his rig and the partnumers are of the forlowing: Front 31017 and the rear 31018 The best place to buy then is at this site: http://www.tyres1.com Now if you can believe this, If you buy them by the front and rear it will cost less that buying the full set of 4. The front set costs $103.00 and the rear cost $109.00. (the best price I found yet)I think it is a inexpensive mod. I'm still not sure what I will be doing.

The Ivan ones are hideous (IMO). They make a "rock crawling" version like the yellow pickup for the 2nd Gen Runner/3rd Gen Truck. No pics though. I've seen something similar elsewhere too.
They are probably running Bushwackers in the back

Hey Guys, I am very new to here, I am redoing a 1986 pickup for my son for his 16th birthday. I installed the bushwhacker cutouts on his truck, they look nice, just not real happy about the fuel door area.... looking to see what others have done, I'm thinking about removing the door until I can make something out of fiberglass to match the shape of the flares.... I will post some pics soon, truck is coming along nicely
