LOL!!!

Tundra Sawp Is In my list of Mods that I have goin....

But Again...

Thats when I get a Real Job and the ability to do one thing at a time.....

For now I def know I am goin witht he brembo rotors...

Pads I will still research.....

OEM pads just go too quick for me (so I sometiems have to brake suddenly, but honestly I am not a lead foot....) So def need to upgrade on those...

The Tundra "upgrade" doesn't make your truck stop any faster or harder. It doesn't change your braking force, either. It's only valuable if you tow in the mountains, as it will prevent you from melting your pads. Leave it for people who want to jump on a bandwagon...

Just rebuild your OEM calipers ($25 for the rebuild kit at any autoparts store), throw in a set of Hawk LTS or Axxis Ultimate pads and if you've damaged your rotors, then find the cheapest iron (not bi-metal) rotors you can get, as long as they're blanks. Short of adding rear discs, you cannot beat a well maintained stock brake system on the 4Runner...

This place quoted me $36/rotor for a 4Runner. They also have cheap PBR/Axxis pads - http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1411597

For Powerslots and Hawk pads, try here. - http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1609111

These places are ultra competitive so you'll get the best price, and often times they eat the shipping...

midget, have you done this swap yet? i have heard nothing but rave reviews on the added stopping power from BIGGER calipers! makes since to me! i would lov to hear why you dont think they add more stopping power
anyhow, i made the mistake of buying the "cheapest" rotors i could get. never will i do it again. they are beginning to develop a slight shutter after only 10k

I greatly appriciate your opinion....

But I am in no sense jumping on the bandwagon.....

If so, I would never be here, cause I would be driving a POS Jeep Wrangler...

Here is a list of things that I have done in the past 20K miles I put on my Runner.....

Mind you 20K ago was back in December....

Both rotors and all pads were replaced...

Since the replace I have been off-raoding 3 times
(nothing extreme, just a couple of mud puddles and thats it, rig was clean a week later due to a very OCD mother....)
Speaking of POS Jeep Wranglers...3 Tows
(Friend has a POS Jeep Wrangler and I have had to two him a total of I would say 20 miles.... and he still hasn't gotten the hint...oh and I was on a couple of good step grades that I towed him....)
5+ Trips to NYC
(Highway allt he way from here in PA to there)
5+ Trips to Balitimore
(Same kinda trip as NYC)
1 Trip to Roanoke VA, I wasn't towing that time but I did have a full cargo bacy (300lbs) and a 60lb dog..
1 moving trip all of ten miles in one direction
(fully loaded cargo bay with about 300lb worth of stuff, and a trailer full that weighed close to 3500lbs)

I notices the warping my last trip to Baltimore which was about 19k after I got the brakes done.....

The reason I say I want to do the Tundra upgrade eventually is beause i plan on having the car lifted with bigger tires and a heaveri drive draing and more power..
As well as I would eventually in my life time like to get a small camper and take a couple of cross country trips to see family refuse to fly with all these new regulations and what not)
So hence my Tundra Upgrade, Heck if I could afford tank brakes I would....

I just have had enough with OEM parts.....

I want to slowly start upgrdaing from stock stuff and I still apprciate your opinion....

Sorry for the rant all, just do to recent events involving my Yota, I am starting to wonder if I am made to drive one....

Well....

After talking to mom for a bit we have come to some odd arrangment....

If I can get her a details list of tools and such that I would need to do this break job,
and a complete instruction list on how to do it...

Then she would let me....

But untill then....

The Runner will have to sit for the next two weeks till next pay day..
And when that day arrives, it will be a descion on weather to get teh rear axel bearins and seals repalce first, or my metal to metal brake issue fixed first....(the brakes of course being if i can't find a way to convince my own mother to let me do it....)

This just stinks.....

Now for the next to week I gotta drive a dinky 98' Lexus ES300.....
I am going to feel so small.....

LOL!!

Pizza and Kool-aid.....
Now I feel like such a kid....

Maybe Pizza and Beer lol!!!

I do have a metric socket set, at least I think I do...

I know step dad does...

I have the haynes book, but mom read over it and thinks it was too confusing .....

She need everything explained like it was a cooke book...

You have this, this, and this...
First mix this with this and then add this and stir for about 5 min or until this looks like this or feel like this....

thats how she works.....

get the list she says.....

My mother is more worried that I would screw something up and ram into the back of someone....

We live on the top of a hill...

At the botton is a nice open field...

I figure I have gotten the Runner up to at least 60mph going down that hill and htne had a good distance to stop before th stop sign.....

So I would have a freind wait at the stop sign and head down....

If the breaks show sings of not working....
And there was a car coming...
I would have him stop the car so I could roll into the feild....

But still Everyoen does it every day so...

Another friend of mine down in DE offer to help me with it if I changed the oil in his Grand Cherokee...

He has a older Tacome that I want so badly (hoping he will leave it to me.....)

But mom still wont let me go unless I have the list of instruactions and tools....

Thats what I get for letting her put her name on the title to reduce insuracne costs for me....

Okay,

I need to invest in jack stands and was wondering how heavy duty i should be going with them...

I see some that are 3 ton and some that are 6 tons at sears....

There craftsmen, who I have always trusted so....

any input on that?

writeup: change front brake pads

It's the easiest job ever. So easy that it could be done with your eyes closed.
3 ton jack stands will be fine....you could even use 2 ton stands or just a floor jack.

i would get the bigger ones esp if you plan on lifting in the future, they should be taller and the higher the jackstand, the weaker it will be. not sure if the 3 tons is fully extened weight or fully collapsed. i would assume it would be fully collapsed. also, you may one day want the truck completely on jack stands so i would just go bigger for the added peace of mind. but you could get away with the 3 tons
