Ok so here is the problem, I pulled out the wire out of the rear passenger ABS senor wheeling about a year ago. It was plugged back in by the place that did my lift, I have the ABS light on, no big deal I cant stand ABS anyway. so recently I have noticed that I have to pump the brake pedal once then I get perfect solid braking. usually its not even a whole pump its more like a 1/2 or a 1/4 pump. So I bleed the brakes twice no better?
The dealer said it could be the ABS sensor, but I don't remember having to pump the brakes until recently. then the dealer says it could be the master cylinder.. I don't believe it cause it holds strong after the 1/2 pump. Anyone have any good ideas?

 

Do you think the braking issue is from the abs sensor being pulled? So you broke the wire then?

You should also realize that the rear drums only do a very small percentage of the braking, and usually if you are having slow braking, you should inspect the front end.

However, I've had a rear brake issue. My axle seal was leaking, and gear oil leaked all over my brake shoes. Braking was non existent on that side so I had to change everything out. Might want to see if you got a leak there. You will be able to see oil coming from behind the drum most likely.

 

I had that problem already too. the rear end is fine, and the front brakes look good, I just had them replaced a while back. its just wierd. the wire pulled out of the sensor, and toyota saud the sensor was bad and it would be 200 just for the part.

 

my 98 4runner did the same thing until i adjusted the rear brakes. use your ebrake and back up and pump the out of the ebrake, until the ebrake starts feeling tighter. this took me about a hundred pumps because my rears were so out of adjustment. hope this helps.

You dont have a parking brake? How can you not have one, unless you remove it?

 

Pump the brake until it is firm. Then press and hold the brake pedal down. Does the pedal begin to creep to the floor? If so, you have a leaky line, master cylinder, or wheel cylinder/caliper.
