I was looking at this Radio Shack one (I really don't like RS products but...) that had a compass built in, of course, they wouln't plug it in and let me demo it though. I believe it was 99 bucks and I couldn't get the non-american salesguy to bargain with me.

Dual Watch Mobile CB Radio with Digital Compass

That looks like a good setup to me. I was thinking of getting a 4' black firestik just to mount on the TJM and wait on the CB, you know, just for looks, hehe.

Keisur, are you going with one of those aluminium receiver shackles? Just wondering if you stumbled on to that site of if they were recommended.

do you remember how much dust we had to eat during Hungry Valley run?

Now imagine if you had a good CB radio you could have kept much further distance from the rig in front of you ... and still be able to communicate with the caravan in case of an emergency.

Without a radio you have to be within the view of the rig in front otherwise you are risking being left behind.

I got CB right after our HV run - can't wait to test it out now ...

Hey L33

I'm bringing my SWR meter to Pismo. We can get your antenna tuned right before we go.

If you can wait that long

My Cobra 18WXblah blah sat in my garage for 3 months before I did anything about it

WEll, I thought about that but they claim the failure load to be around 44k and the d ring shackle is a regular heavy duty on. if the one corey posted is a steel one I will probably get that one. btw, I just stumbled onto that site.

If you're going to do that make sure you're updated on the return policy.
I don't know if you'll experience this but I had to go to 3 or 4 different RS shops before I found one that carried them and mine was their last one.

You don't need to tune your CB for trail talk. It'll work just fine when all the other trucks are within 500 yards. Sure, you'll get more static and you won't be able to hear people when they're really far out, but for talking on the trail it'll be fine.

I know it's rare but in the event of a 3 shouldn't we worry about him frying his radio?

Arrow Shackle shackle shackle

I'm on my way to make a few of my own receiver shackle mounts. 2 inch steel barstock should be a good medium. Heres a link to some cheap shackles.

http://www.stageriggingonline.com/shackles.html

50$ min order though. The imports are galvanized, from china. Not the best quality but should hold fast and are great for losing in the mud.
