Borla exhaust

I have a line on a borla 40085 muffler. its a XR-1 sportsman racing muffler my buddy got for his camaro but it wont fit without some modification with a hammer so it just sat for a couple yrs. Its 5in round x 15 long with a 3in in and out. i would set it up as a catback system but will having 3in pipes out back cause power issues? I would be keeping everything stock from the headers back until after the cats. Do you think it will be obnoxiously loud with this size of muffler? If anyone has some input on that it would be great.

3" pipes would be annoying, i'd think. but an exhaust shop can put reducers on easily. I also have a turbo style muffler and i think its like 11.5" in length. and yes, its loud. my exhaust is straight piped and also 2.25 though. its still pretty loud with the cat on.

size of the muffler makes a big difference.

i don't think yours will be too loud personally....however i drive a straightpiped '96 dodge (360, no cat, no muffler) daily.....it's LOUD

3" is unnecessary but if it was only AFTER the muffler then I think it won't be too bad. Depends on your definition of 'loud' I guess.... I have 2.5" from the manifold back with jardine hi-flow muffler and stock 'hi-flow' cat (all the new ones are high flow, don't waste your money on a 'performance' cat...) and it's not loud at all... louder than stock but not annoying at all.

try it out!

I guess i could run stock size pipe up to the muffler then get a reducer and go 3in out the back. thats not a bad idea at all.
