body lift / susp lift need advice

everyone has different opinions and I was curious, I own a 97 4runner and was looking to run MT 31s or MTs 33s and was wondering can I put that on stock hieght? or what needs to be done so I can run it with no rubbing or clearance problems?

also which company would you recomdnd and does if affect ride performance?

You can run 265/75/16 on a stock suspension 3rd gen,which are around 32" tall.Some people have a little rub.i think that depends on how much actual off-roading you do.I drive mine 95% on road and the rest on the beach,and i have had no problems. HTH Kurt

oh I see so 33s I would need lift? and 31s will fit?
I drive also 85-90% on the road and rest for beach roading to get to nice spots haha

but I also might just want a lift to get that better look especially with those 31s or 33s
whcih vendor would be best?

also i currently am running the 265/70/16s little bit smaller then the ones you listed. are those like 31s?

heres another situation i found out all those MTs the 31s and the 33s are for 15" only?
so meaning i have to sell my rims and get some 15"s
i was thinking of a set of 15x10 MT classics
do i need to do any mods to use these?
im so lost.. please any help?

i was thinking though i wouldnt mind upgrading to some newer rims i like the look of the mt classics
but compared to my stock 16x7 rims to a new 15x10 rims
will it even fit?
do i need lift?
mods?
i was thinking cheaper route find some MT bajas that are 31s or 33s that have 16" rim size that would fit on my stock 16x7s?
or is that not possible?

damn bro, use the search button. There's tons of threads regarding to tires. My runner is bone stock with the tires maxed out which is 33 or 32 (cant remember) on stock rims (with no rub, i off road every now and then and get some rub while offroad) . if you were to get a lift, i'd suggest you to get a full suspension lift, not a body lift. Me, personally... i'd get a 2-3" lift and get a set of decent rims/tire set up. That's my goal for next summer while i'm out of school (i hope)

I wouldn't recommend going to 15" wheels if you have 16" already. #1 you may have clearance issues with the brakes and #2 you will eventually be begging to do the Tundra caliper/rotor upgrade (do a search) once those heavier oversized tires warp your rotors. 31" will fit no problems but 32" WILL rub on the upper control arms believe me I've already tried and test fitted one. You might can get by with offset wheels and a little trimming. If you get any bigger then you will need a lift unless you don't mind using a sawzall and some pinch weld hammering.

oh i see. okay so ill keep the 16s. and yeah ive read about the tundra brake mod. have that in mind.

but umm hmm so 265/75/16s arent good? they will rub? is that bad?
haha shoot im really lost. i looked up some prices on some 265/75/16s muds and they arent too bad so im considering. currently i have 265/70/16s all season highway tires.

Ok so awpsome, ill try to help ya out. Depending on which year model 4runner u have u might be able to run 275/75/16s (96-99) 275/70/16s (00-02). I have an 02 and i cant run the 75s bc i have brush guard but even then i think it might slightly rub.

So the 275/70/16 are appx a 31" and if u want a 285/75/16(33") tire u should get a 3" lift and 1" body so that u dont have problems with rubbing. If u wanna go with 315/75/16 (35") tires u will need 3" lift with 2-3" body. With the 2" u may have some rubbing but u shouldnt have any with the 3" body. The main negative thing is most ppl say that u need to regear when running 35s but also recommend it even when ur running 33s...

I just ordered a 3' toytec suspension lift and a 3" 4crawler body lift and plan on running 35s pretty soon. Well i hope this helped to clear things up...

you should be fine with 265/75/16 with no lift. However it's recommended that you to have a lift for that size or more.

btw my 4runner is a 98' bone stock.

no a 285/75/16 is closer to a 33" tire. the 265/75/16 is almost a 32" tire. If ur gonna get the lift u should get the 285s for the full 33"s

getting it lifted by a shop costs way more... look around this forum and ull find lots of info on how to lift it. The suspension lift is very easy and straight forward. The body lift shouldnt be too bad and comes with instructions too.

you can do it yourself just make sure you have someone around who somewhat knows what they are doing. you can get some cheap mud tires at pepboys that have decent reviews (definity m/t's) for like $600 or so after a mail in rebate. expect to spend at least $600 for a full suspension lift (coils and new shocks/struts) at least $600 on new tires, and about $200 on a body lift and the associated bells and whistles (bumper brackets, differential drop, steering shaft extension, top plate spacers or whatnot, the 4crawler lifts should have everything you need for a body lift but the toytec one didnt come with the bumper brackets)

see what you can find for cheap on craigslist/ebay/different online marketplaces, and also consider that getting a rear lunchbox locker is just about as important to actually offroading as the lift and the mud tires. i went ahead and put one in at the same time and spent about $2000 on my whole setup

I had ome on my 97 runner and really liked it, here is a link to a review that I wrote http://www.gentryoffroad.com/php/gen...uctreview/ome/
It cost $800 and it is pretty easy to install. Besides the basic hand tools you will need a torque wrench and a spring compressor. You can also have a shop just asemble the coil over for you, this will reduce the danger a lot. It took me a weekend to install and that was before I knew much about mechanics. You will also need to do a wheel alignment after the lift is installed.
The ome lift also gives decent wheel travel for ifs


This lift will clear 33"s.
Its off topic but putting a locker in the rear will help offroad far more than a lift will, not sure if you are going for looks or function.

You'll be fine with 265/75/16 (32") MT's on your stock '97. If you hear any rubbing it'll be plastic usually in the front. Just buy the damn things already then post some pics!!!
