Blew My Motor Last Night - Replacement Q's?

Well, 15lbs of boost and a good tune seemed to be too much for the stock internals to take. Broke a rod last night and now need a good replacement. I found a low mileage motor from a 2002 close by for a decent price. This should fit in my 99 right? I know the throttle by wire is used but I plan on just re-using my current TB on the new motor. Is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks!

the ECU connectors, the harness, all that. if anything, just swap over your harness.

I was planning on just using my current harness and hooking it up. The question is will all the sensors - cam, knock, oil etc.. all hook up to the harness or not?

I'm curious what numbers that put out on the dyno or the strip? After all is said and done are you going to run the same setup or tone down the boost a bit?

They should all work fine but a little homework to verify the part numbers at the dealer would probably go a long way towards saving you any potential headache later. The throttle body is the only glaring difference that I can think of offhand between the 99 and 02 engines but that doesn't mean I'm not missing something.

I am looking into a forged bottom end, but it is costly and I won't be able to take full advantage of it unless I go with a standalone fuel managment which is another big money and time item.. The cylinder can hold plenty - 800 hp on a stock block from psi racing..

The last dyno I got with my old turbo was 272hp and 330 ish TQ at 7 lbs of boost. Since then, I got an upgraded turbo and turned up the boost to 15 lbs. Was planning on going to the dyno in two weeks but it looks like I will have to wait now...

So did you blow a rod due to detonation issues?
The 15 psi isn't much to be causing that much damage.

Not sure - I just got it towed home and in the garage and still need to take it out and tear it apart. Right before it blew, my boost spiked up to 20 lbs - I let off and then go on it again and it set to 15 lbs even. Ran hard for about 3 seconds then boom. My afr's were right at 11-11.5 the whole time and I couldn't hear any detonation (it's pretty loud at WOT though). Plus, I have been running at 15lbs since it has gotten colder out without any detonation issue except at 3000-3500 rpm where I have pulled some timing.

I won't know untill I pull it apart, but this motor has been boosted almost all it's life - most of it with the S/C and no fuel mods - so it isn't a huge shock to me that this happened.
