I like the Mojave.

If you can find a one piece steel, that would likely be truest. When they weld in the centers, it seems to create a mess. My 15x8 AL beadlocks weigh considerably less than my 15x8 steels and rode 100000000 times better with unbalanced tires than my steels ever did balanced on any machine.

I agree if your truck is a DD, I wouldn't recommend getting the steelies to drive on every day. But when it comes down to it, if you wheel the thing. The wheels are going to get torn up. I've got rock rash on both sets of my wheels so I don't mind spending $200 for 4 wheels instead of 1.5. But, they are heavy... I'm going back to my stock wheels with A/Ts and putting some MTs on the steelies. Seems like the most logical thing to do for me. I'd try christian's wheel painting write-up and see what happens. Do two of them, if you don't like it strip them back down!

IMO enough people have done the blacked out wheels so maybe just stick with silver or try another style of rim. Also it seems that every Jeep Cherokee (square boxy style) I see that lifted all use blacked out wheels and seems kinda played out now but some rigs still do look good all black and some people do an impressive job painting stock wheels like Christian did but if you plan on painting stock wheels then take your time and do a good job or they'll look like ass in a few years.

Cool

I have been trying to find some black rims since the purchase of my runner. I think they add to the look of your rig. The only ones that I have found are some 20's that have a chrome lip, and more recently some kevelar coated rims(not sure of the brand).

Black Rims = Da' Bomb!

I'm not such a big fan of the black rims on dark green/black trucks. i think the silver/grey looks much better

I prefer black rims with either a machined or polished lip.... otherwise they blend into the tires too much imo. I wouldn't paint the factory wheels anyways unless they were beaten up.....

i never had any idea people had such problems balancing steel wheels...heck, i've never even owned a truck with aluminum/alloy rims.

my LTBs balanced out fine, and after about 8,000 miles are still pretty smooth on the road. they don't like high speeds, over 60 and things get hairy

I don't like the black rims on a blacked out truck. No contrast at all. They look good on white trucks though.

blacked out rims on a dark truck are just so.... 2001. (ie stale)

Yellow or Silver trucks ( and some red ones ) you can still get away with it.

The black on black especially has just been overdone to death. I was guilty of it on my 98 Ram Sport Club Cab 4x4, but that was in 2000 and by last year I was ready for the stock wheels again.

just say NO

im definately thinking of getting some black rims. i think the white letter out (BFG a/t's) and the chrome bumpers will give it a little contrast. ive got a black 2000 4runner and the windows are dark, but legal. black brushguard, taillight guards, and surco rack. i dont think the black look is old. plus, its hard to make a 4runner look bad.

Darrman, i think your truck looks good like that.

I would agree though that once you get the extra money to buy some other rims.

I really like the mickey thompson or the AR baja rims powdercoated black.

[[i think black wheels are cheesy, but i also like chrome steelies and i put the white letters on the outside where they're supposed to be ]]

I'm with Kyle! I HATE the black rim fad. Although those Teflon Mohaves are nice wheels.

[[ I have been trying to find some black rims since the purchase of my runner. ]]

You're kidding right? They are not hard to find.

[[ Follow your heart and come over to the dark side...chromies are weak and the dark side is strong...give in young Skywalker... ]]

Be different, start a new trend. How about yellow? Maybe metal flake red? Pink?

HEY! Those were the first new rims I had on my 85 4Runner...they were cool back in the day, but heck I still had disco 8 tracks laying around the living room... Had em about a year and sold em to some turkey when I lifted her and went bigger.
