4cyl 3rd member... last post?
So i just bought the gears for my 4runner which means im finally committed to getting them and the locker installed WOOOHOOOO!!! Bought dang time, ive been home for a couple of months and havnt done it, so its finally time. I take the truck up to Appalachian Offroad in Westminster MD on Tuesday and ill pick it up on thursday afternoon. So lets hope for the best, all i know is 4.88s are gonna bring a little power back into the 4runner with the 33's its a little sluggish. Thats all for now, oh and i bought an M416 military trailer to turn into an offroad tent trailer rig.

and that is the kind of trailer i bought. but i plan on doing more than just painting it and using it as a utility trailer, however it will be used for that for a while. i should be picking it up next weekend. the guy i bought it from is a military surplus dealer and sandblasted it, put new tires, shocks, emergency brake pads, and painted the whole thing black for me. and he also serviced everything to make sure its all functional. so im pretty stoked.

BTW wyo, what was your deciding factor to go with 4.88s vs 4.56s? If I can ever manage save up enough $$ for new tires and gears, I'm going to step up to 33s and 4.56s. Simply b/c I do a lot of freeway driving and very seldom tow. Plus I've got decent power as it is with 32s and 4.10s.
Be sure to let us know how the new gears and lockers work out...I know I'm jealous!

well deciding factor on 4.88s is when i want to run 35s ill be able to and not loose much power, and ill be doing a lot of towing, basically ever vacation. and what its going to set me back 1572 after its done, but thats just the gears, master install kits and actual install. but im taking the whole truck so they are going to pull the differentials and put them back in. where as if i pulled them myself and took them in it would be around 1300. now for pictures of the trailer, as it was when i bought it, i dont have pictures of it painted because its getting sandblasted and painted next week.
i dont think ill have a problem pulling it fully loaded with 4.88s.

4CYL 3rd?
So it took a little longer for them to get it done, I got it done at Appalachian Offroad in Westminster, good group of guys, a little pricey but eh. I Picked my truck up on monday. While they were doing they ran into a small problem, they couldnt get the ring and pinion to mesh right, after two days on in and out and fiddling with the gears they did some research and said my 3rd member is a 4cyl 3rd. Which didnt make since to me but they said the only noticable difference is the fact that the 4cyl 3rd is missing a rib on the top of the outside. Anybody lknow anything about this? It works and drives fine. But im just curious why my sport v6 would have a 4cyl 3rd.
