Actually, you can use the big rotors/caliper on 16" rims by grinding a bit from the upper and lower edges of the calipers.. Oz prado owners who prefer to use 16" rims do that.. http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5417 http://www.lcool.org/technical/120_s...ls/16inch.html

Cool. I wonder if those are the SE13E castings.

I installed my second set a few weeks ago. The first siezed up after sitting unused for several months.

I put on the larger tundra brakes last weekend, my only problem was my parking brake assembly on the back drums had ceased up.

Now that I have the old 4runner calipers sitting around, is there anything I can do with them? Hoping to get some money for them as I know places will refurbish them.

Does anybody know if 231 mm tundra brakes will fit with FJ-80 16" Land Cruiser wheels? I would rather go with 199 mm brakes than grind them.
Just figured I would answer my own question because I didn't see it anywhere else.

Land Cruiser FJ-80 wheels do not work with even the 199mm calipers, I added 1/4" spacers and then there was no drama. I still got ten turns with the lugs.

Just an FYI on loaded Calipers...

In general you are going to be getting cheap pads with this kit, so loaded is really not any bargain. You should replace the pads with Yota pads or the Akebonos or others that folks use. Trust me on this as those cheap pads are going to melt material on to your rotor and cause vibration/shudder. You will need to get those rotors cut and install new pads eventually.

longroad, use those front calipers along with stock 4Runner rotors and do the rear brake disc conversion. I just did the Tundra upgrade this weekend and like you got my parts from a boneyard so now I am going to do the rear disc conversion using the leftover stock front brake parts.

Now there's an idea, are you just going to wing it or is there a write up somewhere?

I searched but couldnt find a write up. It seems the main concern with this setup is not having an ebrake. That isnt really important to me as I have an auto and have not used my ebrake once since owning this 4Runner. I am going to do some more research on this though and if I move forward with it I will do a write up to help others. The tech write ups on this site are what makes it so valuable, Ive used them alot to help me solve problems and do upgrades.

When I did the tundra upgrade I looked over the rear brakes and my bellcranks were frozen which causes the rear drums to not correctly self adjust. I tried freeing them up and they moved a little, but were beyond fixing. I finally got around to ordering new bellcranks this weekend, I have an auto as well and wouldn't miss dealing with the ebrake either.

I came upon a set of 2003 tundra calipers and rotors from a craigslist ad. The truck is being parted out and I am just curious as to what to look for when going to get these?
I was planning to get new pads, but do I need new lines or machine the rotors?
Where can I take the parts to get checked out before install?

Look for a casting numbers, 13WL is 231mm. S13WE is the 199mm

It depends on how the rotors look, but if you're getting new pads, you might want to turn the rotors. As for the lines, you shouldn't need any new ones since the existing 4runner lines will work.

i just installed the 231 tundra calipers and rotors on a 2002. I have lx 450 wheels. To get them to fit I had to use 1/4inch wheel spacers. i thought about grinding my wheels, but was worried that would kick my wheels out of balance.

hmmm...I think the lexus wheels have a little less backspacing than the stock rims.

i just bit the bullet 3 hours ago and grinded the insides of the lx 450 wheels, while i was beating on the pinch weld and cutting out some of the inner fender. Now I just have to take them to discount tire and see if they will still balance them for me.
