I have searched and haven't found anything so, does anyone know if they make better than OEM spark plug wires? I was looking at NGK's site and they don't make them.
Anyone?

 

Over the past few weeks I've been looking for an aftermarket wire as well, and haven't found anything. All I've found are OEM Equivalents on Ebay. :-/

 

I know there are some, I believe I've seen some on LC. But unless your running a super charger I think OEM replacements will do you just fine.

 

MSD makes a set 8.5 mm spiral cores for the 3 slow. Im in the process of figuring how to install a crane cams ignition on my 3slow as well. These are not the only wires that I found, I beleive Nology makes a set as well.

 

I managed to score some Japan spec Hilux Surf TRD plug wires, a friend at a local dealership had access to a bunch of Japanese market parts. They are black like OEM but have TRD stamped on the wires and on the rubber where the rubber boots go over the spark plugs. Ran me about $150

 

You mean besides the NGK TE66?
I've always read that these and OEM are the only plug wires to use.

 

I just had some NGKs put on (it was in the shop for other problems). Sorry I don't know what the part number is.

2x on the NGK TE66. I bought mine from sparkplugs.com (current list price is $29.95 + shipping).

 

I had some NGKs on my 4runner for several years, then went with OEM when I did my last tune up. I didn't find any noticeable difference between the two, besides price and the color of the wires.

 

Yes besides NGK TE66. Sometimes they make better ones that still fit.

Has anyone noticed that they fit differently into the plastic sheaths than OEM?

Boy, I would love to get my hands on some TRD Helix Surf wires.

 

My OEM wires have over 120k on them and they still perform great. Why mess with something that works well? I'm going oem again when it comes time to replace.

 

Do i need to order 2 sets of those ngk te66 wires from sparkplugs.com because it looks like each set comes with three wires?

 

Nope! You only have 3 wires. There are three spark packs on top of the right 3 spark plugs and the wires plug into them and run to the left bank.

 

What's your reason for needing "better than OEM?"
That might help us answer your question.

Doesn't get a whole lot better than OEM - those old Asian guys upstairs really know what they're talking about.

Whats a good plug match for the NGK TE66 wires?

 

Pretty much any dual electrode NGK or Denso plug

 

I was mainly wondering if they made TRD or equivilant. It just seems like the wires are not the big (in diameter) to some others I have used in other cars.

I just got done with a technical training on NGK plugs and wires and I must say I was impressed with the way that NGK manufactures their wires, very high quality stuff.

Just because one wire is larger than the other it doesn't mean that it's going to perform better. The wiresets you saw in other cars may have been larger because that car's ignition system makes more voltage than the ignition system in your truck. Those wires have more insulation so the spark doesn't jump out of the wire. The TE66 wireset is manufactured for the voltage that your ignition system makes, it doesn't need to be any larger.

Plug wires carry a high voltage and need lots of insulation, but they carry negligible current, so the diameter of the actual conductive material that carries the electricity does not need to be very large.

While not always the case, wire diameter can also be used as a marketing incentive, even though it does not perform any better than a standard wire.

200k on mine when i replaced them, i know because they had the 1994 date printed on the wires. only reason i had to replace them was because i tore a boot off when i was changing the plugs. didnt notice any difference between the 200k wires and the new ones. oem is definitly the way to go.
