Best way to soup up a 3rd GEN????
I want to soup up a 3rd GEN 02 Limited 4 Runner. I'm thinking TRD S-charger and exhaust? What gains can I expect? What will my gas mileage, horsepower, torque, and 0-60 number look like? I also heard the S-charger can be noisy, but how much noisy in Db’s can that be? What about a K&N air intake system?
Any help from people running these MODs will be greatly appreciated.

3.4L V6 engine mods
the TRD supercharger is the only way to go. ONce that baby get's bolted on....you won't care if it's noisy.
from trdusa.com
3.4L Supercharger, 5VZFE
HP & TORQUE GAIN
• Peak to peak gain: + 64 HP (34%)
• Best gain: 75 HP @ 5,200 RPM (43%)
• Peak to peak gain: + 50 lb-ft torque (22%)
• Best gain: 77 lb-ft torque (43%)
• The TRD supercharged 3.4L engine produces as much torque at 1,800 RPM as the normally aspirated engine does at its torque peak
can't argue with that

The S/C is nice but don't expect to just bolt it on and have it run flawlessly (do the search and you will find many stories). There are fuel system modifications that need to be made to get the full benefit of the S/C and to prevent potential long-term damage due to pre-mature detonation. They range from buying the TRD 7th Injector to Gadget's/Tragerr's Underdog Racing Development to buying all the system upgrades piecemeal.
BTW, I have the S/C. Most of the issues you will read about after the search , I am experiencing. I am trying to decide if I am going to keep it or go back to stock.

cw,
that too, has been covered in some detail. give search a try using "K&N air intake" or just simply "K&N"
re searching: no one is trying to be a d@#k or anything like that by suggesting you do. in fact, when you read all the threads about your question, you'll get more out of it by reading all the diverse opinions than say, just a few people responding in this thread.

The 'Search' feature is a nice reply by resident posters, but I have not had too much success getting the answer I am seeking using the 'Search' feature. Everyone always chimes about use the 'Search', it doens't work that well.

I think the best way to SOUP up your 4Runner would be to go buy a can of Cambell's Soup (pick you favorite flavor) and dump it all over your hood...
The SC is cool, but needs a ton of other stuff to really get your money's worth. Tough to say, but headers and a new cat-back exhaust is a good second along with just dropping in a Toyota V8...

I think if you really wanted to "soup" up a 4runner, you should SAS it, and run dual marlin cases, lock it up, and then run 44" boggers!!
ok ok maybe not 44", but BOGGERS! man I love those tires.

How much power is adequate is all relative. I have a stock 22RE in my 1988 4runner, so the stock 3.4 would seem like a rocket to me. I guess I don't understand why people feel the need for more power than that, but that's probably because all my vehicles have been so slow, starting with a 1969 and then 1971 VW Beetles.
At some point in the next couple of years, I will be a candidate for an early (96-98) 3rd gen. I will probably be most interested in longevity of the engine, rather than max power.
