I was wondering what every body thought was the best oil for high miles. Im running Pennzoil 10w30 high mileage , but I want to change. My truck has 150,000 miles.

 

my neighbor has an 81 2wd toyota with over 400,000kms and he's using castrol 20w50.

 

i'm not sure the high mileage is worth it. I use mobil 1 w/ 266k

i think high mileage is no different.

 

not much of a fan of the high mileage oil. it's just a little thicker than the others and has some seal swelling junk in it. if I ever did use it though, I'd prolly get it in valvoline

 

Red, just go with a quality synth and you and your rig should be good to go.

Why the change? Stick with what has been workin for ya.

 

All my mechanic friends have always told me to stay away from penzoil becase they said it "gunks up your engine". They allso say that the high milage stuff can oversofen your seals if you use it all the time. I just run 10w40 instead of 10w30 of a high priced sinthetic and call it good.

 

I just use the Castrol High Mileage oil.

 

I would go with the Castrol HMO, or the Mobil HMO

 

I have used castrol 10w 40 for 12 years and havent had a problem.
I recently switched to castrol high mileage. I only have a couple hundred miles with it, but it seems to be fine. I guess I'll find out in the long run.

 

Are you having some specific problem you are trying to correct? If not there is no need for that marketing hype oil.

The best oil you can use in any engine, any mileage is AMSOIL. It has the max amount of benificial additives. There is nothing out on the market that can touch it. They have been making sure of that since 1972.

Uhh.. I use this in my diesel lawn tractor. I didn't know it was for gas motors too.. I guess it works!

 

Rotella is a Diesel engine oil.

You can run a Diesel engine oil in a gas engine, but you should not run a gas engine oil in a Diesel.

I wanted to quote both of Gadget's posts and agree, but since you can only do one I just typed this instead...

High mileage oils are a bunch of marketing hype, just like the 3000 mile oil change interval that has been perpetuated by the quick lube industry and their desire to increase their bottom line.

Synthetics aren't cost-effective unless you increase the drain intervals -- just expensive insurance. However, AMSOIL does in fact save you money at their recommended intervals. I ran the same oil in my Tundra for over 2 years without a drain. I tested it and changed the filters and the results kept coming back that it was good for continued use so I kept running it. And in the process I used different labs so I'm confident all was on the up and up.

Bottom line: use what you are comfortable with and change it at the recommended interval provided. You'll note that few oils offer a recommended drain interval, in hopes you will drain early and buy more...

I use Mobil1 0w40. I used to use 5w30 but oil pressure seemed low at idle with the A/C on.

 

Uhh, well, it is available in my local stores here. I'm not into paying out the hole for oil and castrol has always been fine for me. I don't regularily send my oil in to get those tests done so it really makes no difference to me. oil is oil to me as long as it is changed at the recommended mileages. Note that I said, "for me" so I'm not looking for an argument here. I also was not talking about synthetic since I don't run that.

Yep, it's for gasoline engines as well. Has the current S ratings. It's a very good oil.
