Beginning build up of my 1985 4runner
Hey guys I am new, I just recently purchased my 1985 4runner and I am very excited about it. It will be my daily driver so it cannot be too wild, but I was wondering if some of you guys could offer some suggestions about an early build up. I am as well wondering if I am able to run 32's on stock suspension height as well as what is the best tire for me doing the occasional weekend not too hardcore wheeling? Thank you very much as every suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to yotatech you will find a wealth of information here. As for your tires the brand and type is kinda up to you and how much you drive and how much and where you offroad, but the 32's will rub when steering

For a nice daily driver, imop would be to lift it about 2.5 - 3" using Downey or Skyjacker lift. Due to its age, I would replace the rear springs and not use an add a leaf. Both suspensions are a little rigid, but the ride is fairly nice and you will have some flex.
From the lift, I would replace the push pull factory steering with cross over steering from All Pro. The high cross won't work with only a 3", but All Pro offroad has regular cross over too. This will help the steering and correct the bump stop brake, plus you can remove the bar connected to your axle to frame. This will help with flex a little.
This lift along with 32's looks really nice. You shouldn't need to change gears with 32's although it would help! (:
All the changes would allow you mo migrate to 33's in the future and you wouldn't be out too much money if you wanted it more aggressive in the future.
As for a tire, I would suggest the BFG All terrain. Nice all around tire. Good mileage from it and low road noise and for a 10 - 20% offroad use will be a nice setup.
Good luck and have fun!

Yo Trey... poopshute here. We talked earlier about my recommendations. Want to know what others think. Since it's an older rig and the leafs have soften up... wouldn't a slight shackle lift with some newer shocks be sufficient? I did that with my older 1980 Toyota and had good results with articulation up in the hills. The leafs were soft and the extended shackles helped it articulate just fine. Especially since you'll prolly be doing more driving back and forth on the roads... don't know if it's worth spending the crazy money for new leafs AND new shocks. I recommend a 2" shackle lift with new OME shocks. It's a good way to start at least since it's fairly cheap. I've been ripped on about this mod before hence why I'm asking what the rest of ya'll think. Lates Junior!

Sorry... forgot to add this. Check out the extended length shackles here. I used these on my older rig. http://www.northwestoffroad.com/part...es_tierod.html These are the one's with the greasable pins. Slee off road in Golden has the shocks Old Man Emu shocks we were talking about. (North West Offroad specializes in just Toyota parts... both old and new. Good place.)
