Bedliners?

I have an appointment this Saturday with the Line-x guy. I have been getting mixed reviews omn the product. I would like to get a forum started on bedliners or if not a forum at least a small discussion. Any opions on Spray on's, how about drop in's. How do they compare, looks colors. Idea's? Should I keep my appointment with Line-x or should I go a different route. My truck is brand new and this is the first mod I will be making so I dont want to screw up right off the bat.

I have a Lunar Mist Tacoma, any ideas on Colors, should I go Black or get the color match?

Welcome to the boards.

Dont get a Line-X, especially since you are in San Diego and that is where Rhino Liner is based. I used to work at Rhino and they are by far the best spray-on liner. They have a patent on the mixture, and are also the originators of the process. Dont get me wrong, Line-X looks cool, but I have had to scrape one too many Line-X's out of various trucks in order to apply Rhino. That sucks and costs a lot of money. If its the texture you like, ask the Rhino dealer to adjust the spray nozzle during the texture step. They can make it "fine" just like line-x.

Also, do a search. There is a ton of info and threads about this very topic.

Ive tried to do plenty of research but I keep falling short. I called Line-x cause that was where I was leaning cause of the reviews I have read. I am looking to get real life stories liek the one you have. I dont even know what they look like so I have nothing to base my decision off of. I am just looking at what is best for my vehicle. So you think Rhino is the way to go huh?

Definetly. Line-X has a good product, but Rhino is superior.

The benefits of Rhino:

Flexibility
Adds 40lbs to your truck
Dampens noise
Grips better, even when wet
Easy to clean, just wash it with a scrub brush
Huge temp range

I dont have a reason to talk up Rhino. I actually could care less how they do. But, I do care that people on this board are getting their monies worth for what they are buying. This just happens to be a product in which I know what I am talking about. Call around and see what kind of deal you can get. Let me give you a hint, cash will get you farther. The dealers will most likely cut you a deal if you have cash. They might go over the rail for free. On Toyota's they should spray to the "inside edge" - accept nothing less. Let me know if you have more questions.

This is good stuff, this is what I am looking for. Now if only I can start a debate. I just called and made an appt witha Rhino Liner dealer. He wants 370 for over the rail, an extra 200 to color match. So now I have two appointments and am looking for reason to cancel one. 96 you are a good man, thanks

I prefer drop in plastic bedliners. I had an over-the-rail model for 9+ years and never had a problem. It never bent, cracked, or warped. I even ran a shell on top of that for several years. Here is how I look at, the bed is to throw crap in and not care if it gets banged up. You can always buy a new plastic liner. If you dent a spray-on liner you dented your truck.

I took my liner out a few times over the years and washed the bed and sanded down any surface rust (very minor) and then put some rattle can primer and was good to go - nobody sees it.

Go Rhino.
I know nothing of Line-X but I have Rhino in my truck. The finish is good, you don't slip when it's wet, it's tough and hard to get through... overall win. Besides, how can you go wrong with a lifetime warranty?

Avoid the Miramar place - try the one off of the 15 around the Balboa exit (don't remember exactly). The Miramar place messed up one of my tie down anchor bolts and didn't clean up the hanging drips from the drain holes so the plugs don't fit very well.

All in all though... after helping several people move, daily travel with my bike, countless sharp scratchy items in the bed... I've never regretted the liner.

My truck came with one of those plastic bedliners and in due course it will definately get replaced with Rhino Liner.

I find it iritating that the plastic liner isn't a perfect fit to the bed, plus it doesn't protect up to the edges.
Hopefully I won't have a heart attack when I see 10+ years of junk caught under the liner

Something else I forgot...
the plastic liner has these annoying 'ribs' (for strength I suppose) running longways that make it pretty damn uncomfortable if you happen to be, er, sleeping in the back

$370 for over the rail? Yikes. Go to the place someone else reccommended, off Balboa and talk to the manager/owner in person. The Rhino website and some magazines will have coupons, I think $25 off. Check that out too. I am telling you, cash talks. They can be flexible. If they are hurting for business (because of the economy) they will find a way to get you. Go in there and tell them that you cant make up your mind between them and Line-X. They may even match a price from Line-X.

Color matching is a real pain, and totally unnecessary (my opinion) its next to impossible to color match a metallic paint job with non-metallic pigment. I say go with black, but again that's just my opinion.

Make sure they are REALLY careful with your tie downs. They should be removing them and reinstalling them after spraying, and the back plate on your tailgate should also be removed and sprayed separately, allowing you future access to the tailgate handle should it break. If they dont, tell them they need to. Its not that hard.

Plastic drop in liners are way cheaper, but there are definite draw backs. They trap dirt and grim, they rub the paint off, they can fly out or be stolen (rare), they are slippery when wet, the ribs are uncomfortable, etc, etc.

Have had the drop in liners before, and almost always had warping problems as soon as it warmed up. When we bought the new Tacoma a while back, we decided to go for a spray in. After checking out the Rhino, Line-X and some other brand (?), we went with the Line-X and haven't been disappointed. I didn't like the finish or the soft feel of the Rhino. Seemed like it could be damaged easier. The Line-X had a clean, hard finish, and has stood up to everything we've thrown at it so far. The only drawback was the cost. The Line-X was the highest priced by about $50, but all of the spray in liners were substantially higher than a drop in.

I got my truck line-x'd over the rhino was because of the texture.
I am very happy with it.
But looks like you can get rhino with the same texture as line-x.

Either way, you cant go wrong.

Yeah... he's got a point. As long as its Line-X or Rhino you're not making a bad decision.
