Which automatic transmission can I use in my '99 4Runner Ltd?
Blew my auto trans. in my '99 T4R Limited and need a replacement. Truck has a manufacture date of 3/99 (when searching for used trans. on car-part.com there were different trans. for 'from 5/99' and 'thru 6/99'; not sure how big of a difference this makes.
I've read lots of forum posts and talked to a few people that seemed to know quite a bit about Toyotas and I'm getting mixed messages...
What I really need to know is which automatic transmission will bolt on to my '99 Ltd without a bunch of extra electrical work?
I've found transmissions from a '97 for $350, a '98 for $1000 and a couple 2000 model transmissions for $800 and $1300 (this one comes with T-Case but I wanna keep my '99 T-Case and they couldn't guarantee the transmission would bolt on to my current '99 T-Case).
Several 'Toyota' guys have said that any 96-02 transmission will bolt on, although one guy said I'd have to swap over some electrical and sensor items from my '99. The problem with this is that the guy that's installing my transmission thinks some of my electrical transmission parts may have been 'fried' when my trans. died and may not work properly if transferred. This transmission guy prefers to get a 'thru 6/99' transmission that he knows will fit, but I can't find any nearby, just those listed above ('97, '98, '00).
Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

Pretty much any A34x transmission can work. The only real differences between them are valve bodies, pumps/input shafts, output shafts and maybe some sensors.
I used an A341E from a '96 Lexus LS400 in my 96' 4WD 4Runner. Swapped the output shaft, extension housing, a few sensors, valve body and pump from the 4Runner A340F onto the A341E. Everything bolted on or into existing holes; these cases haven't changed much since the '80s. Worked fine and is quite a bit stronger than the A340F.
