"Auto" Button For Electric Windows

"Auto" Button For Electric Windows
I have electric windows in my Tacoma. The driver's side window has the "auto" function where you press down and it rolls down automatically. Will acquiring one of those switches for the passenger button on the driver's side door make it go down automatically as well?

ACtually, it might. Depends on how the system works. 99% of all auto down features are in the switch - it's just a thermal snap action switch - like a circuit breaker. When window is all the way down, the motor draws more current and the switch opens the circuit. Simple and effective.
Easy to tell, when you push the button harder and activate the auto down, listen to it closely. When the window is all the way down you will hear a 'click' in the switch. For that matter, when you push the button you can feel the extra 'click' as it engages.
Nuther way to test it is swap the switches you have and see if it works.

Yep, I got that too.
So did all of the 4runners that I looked at when I bought mine, Tacoma's must be different.
Matt-I would think if it is just the actual button that has the auto function in it, you could get a donor from a 3rd gen 4runner.
Also, the buttons do make a click noise when they are pushed and especially if the window is already up and you hit the button.

It is not gonna be as easy as changing the switch. The switch itself has built in relay that control the auto function. I tried to do that myself, and it involved in changing the window master and passenger switch, the complete wire harness and the window regulator as well. I got the wire harness and switch form a 01 4runner and it turned out I need the regulator as well, I have not got a chance to pick up the regulator yet. That is what I know, I think that is all you need, it should work. I think the best way is to add the dei window control module, that should be the cheapest route to do this mode. Good luck

It's never simple is it?
I added the delay in my '85 so the windows still worked for a minute after the key is off. I got a delay-off relay from Graingers and installed it on the power window circuit. Worked perfectly. (This was like 12 years ago and no I don't remember the part number...)
