Hey all, finally got round to putting in some sounds. Sub box not completely finished yet, but you get the idea. Got 6.5" Infinity Ref components in the fronts. I ended up cutting 12mm below the mounting face and glassing in a new MDF mounting spacer. Can take pics of that if anyone wants them. In the rears some 6" Infinity 2 ways on a 12mm MDF spacer. Pioneer Headunit, amp under drivers seat running a single 12" pioneer sub in custom box. So here goes.

Amp, as viewed from behind the drivers seat.

I will post more when the box is complete. As you can see in one of the pics, the box is going to curve over the wheel arch. It's gluing at the mo. Will attach it and glass it in place. Hope some of you get some ideas. Cheers, Dan

Very nice work!!!
I am wodering how you are curving the wood to fit onto the bottom of the sub box?
Also how many RMS watts are you running in the sub?
Do you have am amp on the speakers?

It's called 'kurfing'. You put a whole lot of cuts on the back of the MDF, fill the cuts with a resin, bend around a former and let it set. Only running about 180RMS into the sub. Going for SQ, not SPL. And just the head deck on the speakers at the mo, but getting one which will go under the pass seat. Dan

Do you have any pics of the process? I have built a sub box before but not with curves, and to fit in my '82 pickup with no space in the cab it has to curve.

If I do, I thought about getting one of those 12v computer cooling fans from radio shack and directing the airflow over the fins. Should cool it down. I'll probably put in under the seat, I don't want to clutter up the cargo compartment, and theives really can't see it either.

My wifes been getting on me about more volume. I was wondering, what did you do with the stock tweeters up front. I'd like to see some pics of the spacers you made for the front and rear. I've just been putting this off, and I think it's time. Just an amp and new speakers though. Where, "if you don't mind me asking" did you get the infinity comp. and 6.5's?

Wow...your wife wants more volume? Where did you find a woman like that?

Looks nice! much inspiration for me!
Im goin to have to make a nice curve in my box here in a couple of weeks. custom, behind the seat of my std cab taco. its goin to be tight but I can make it work...just use the back wall of the cab for one wall of the box and that adds 3/4" of depth!

I'm in NZ so where I got the speakers won't help you much, but it was Paul Money HiFi. The wagon never had stock tweeters, hence the mounting. Now, on to the curve.
First, cut some grooves into the MDF about 3/4's of the thickness over the area to be curved.
Then after a light sand, fill grooves with and epoxy resin and filler, West Systems is what I used. Also, by having it bent open slightly it aids pushing the resin into the cuts.
Then I placed some plastic over the mould to keep the glue in place and put the MDF over the mould and clamp down.
Once the glue is dry, I will give it a light sand, and then glass it into place in the box. I will take some photos of the doors soon. Cheers, Dan
