I would simply get a used matching diff and drop it in.

I do not recommend driving around with the rear propeller shaft disconnected using only your front wheels to drive the truck. That will put a lot more load the usual on the chain in the transfer case and may cause it to stretch and then you will end up replacing the transfer case along with you rear diff.
