to anyone who has a 04ish body style 4 cylinder

i was wondering how the acceleration is on it, im considering trading my 93 v6 in for a 04 2.7, my acceleration sucks, how is the 4 cylinder, is it equal to my 6 cylinder or better/worst???
thanks!

For what it's worth... My ancient beat-up 3.0L V6 XtraCab (2WD - manual) still out-pulls and out-cruises my best friend's '04 2.4L XtraCab (2WD - automatic).

thats cool, thanks for the input, i wouldnt mind keeping my truck but it has 200k on it and the engine needs a rebuild bad, but with gas prices now, that thing goes through way too much fuel for the amount of driving i do
i really dont do any towing or anything of that nature besides drive my quad all over the place so fuel economy is my first factor, but the one im looking at is a 2.7, which with headers, exhaust, and intake should work for me, opinions?

The 2.7 -

165 hp @ 5200 rpm
185 lb.-ft. @ 3800 rpm

The 3.0 -

150 hp @ 4800 rpm
180 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

I don't think either one of these are "speedster" engines (they come from trucks and SUVs)but the new 2.7 is clearly stronger. Whether the extra power translates into more towing capacity, better gas mileage, or faster acceleration is beyond me.

But there you go.

You'd have to drive them both and see. The 3.0 makes more torque down low than the 2.7, which is a good thing for towing, off-roading, etc. So it may pull better at cruising speed because it will have more torque and horsepower at that RPM than the 4-banger. Just my opinion.

DUde how are u gonna even compare an engine design thats at LEAST 20yrs old with a modern one..go with the 2.7.im sure it gets way better fuel mileage than the 3.0 and to mention the emmision levels have to be way lower than the 3.0
