i got a 22r and straight piped it... it backfired a lot so i took my old glasspack and cut it in half via sawzall, took out the packing and pipe through the middle and welded it back together, it sounds amazing, the sound resonates through the wide body of the glasspack and it sounds so good gives me goosebumps! the glasspacks are only like $30 at pep-boys, u might give that a try

I'm not sure what they would sound like on a 22RE. I've only heard them on a Buick 350 V8, and a couple others. Shouldn't sound ricey, though. It's not a fart can exhaust like they have, it's a muffler. Also, the glasspacks tend to flow MUCH better than a chambered muffler. Which can=more horsepower.

Not necessarily. If you have a lot of crud in your muffler, it might cause your engine to adjust fuel to air ratio. That's like a worst case scenario. I think one of the key components to passing smog tests is a good cat. My 4Runner would not pass with the original one. Not even close, then I got a new hi-flo cat, and the numbers were not even detectable. With 180,000 miles.

I'm not sure what brand it was, or if it even had a brand. I bought it for $100 so I could care less about a brand and it seems to work great, after all, I did pass smog. I got a killer deal on my flowmaster. It was less than $150 installed. Custom all the way back from the headers. I did get a one month old flowmaster 40 series, though, but still the price was right. If budget is an issue, go to a muffler shop, and ask them if they have any that got returned.
