Seems 8 gauge is a little small to be running an amp off of with that 50amp fuse? Depending on how long the run is I'd think about running some 4ga or at least 6ga.

I think I'll actually mount it behind one of the rear panels. Then I'll just have the speaker wire running out to the sub and that'll be easy to unhook when/if I need to pull the sub. I've already run power to the back for it, just have to build a little bracket to hold it is all.

Most people say don't mount the amp on the box but I've had my Rockford mounted to 3 different boxes over the last 3 years and I bout it as a refurb. It still pounds like the day I bought it.

Anyways, so me and my buddy went out for a ride to see how the system pounds. It sounds nice. Only problem is that we smell something burning? At first i thought it could've been the amp, but it didnt seemed too hot. So my next guess was one of the wires are heating up.

4rx, it's an 8 gauge and has 50 amp fuse. How come you said that it's a no go?
Is your sub box a ported? Its probably come from sub burning that you smelt. You'll need much bigger subs set up because you play to hard on sub and probably not loud enough for you. I suggest you to upgrade 4 gauge for that pioneer amp. I used to have 4 gauges wire for my old jbl 600watts amp. It's much easier on the electrical system.

acoustics in the 4runner suck. you can have a really nice system and it will still sound like cr4p.

Really? Wow, thanks for the input. You are obviously a professional.

EVERYONE, stop wasting your time putting a nice sound system in your 4runner because it sounds like crap no matter what!

what's this "cr4p" you talk about?

i'd like to know what it is!

if a 4runner has bad acoustics...then so would every other SUV...they are all set up BASICALLY the same.

I do not care about sound quality at all. Go loud or go home!

i just happened to find out that my sub was gone. the coils on the mtx audio was supposed to be like copper orange. Now it's all burnt black. So basically it went from 4 ohm to 1 ohm, which caused it to draw more power from the amp. Which what was blowing up all of the fuses lol.

Just got myself a new pioneer champion subs, it seems badass. But 2 week break in period sucks lol

ive got a kicker sx 500x2 amp and plenty of other stereo stuff. does anyone know a good place to hide the amp out of sight in a 1998 4runner?

@evolve23 i guarnetee you 4runner acoustics are better than almost all cars. 4runners unlike cars dont have anything dividing the truck from the cabin area therefore when you have a sub in the back youll actually be able to hear true low frequencys as opposed to having them muffled and just turning them up super loud to where you have nothing but loud distortion shaking everything which isnt bass its merely distortion. Also lets be honest. its a car...if you want high quality sound go invest in a high quality home theater system cause thatll be your best bet for the best sound

i bolted my amp behind the sub. works like a charm. That way, if i need to take out the sub for the cargo space, the amp is with it.

ooo i might be able to fit my speaker amp under the drivers seat...its like 18 inches long haha its big although i think i can shorten it by 4 inches by removing these two covers on it.

where does the jack go? haha i actually dont officially own the 4runner yet. im getting it tomorrow morning.
