anyone have sound system in the 4runner?
#381
I will be starting on my custom sub system soon. I am planning on putting an 8" Infinity Reference 850W sub in a custom box behind the drivers side trunk panel, so it is fully hidden. i already have the amps for the rest of my system behind the trunk panels. Anyone done thins before, and if so pics?
I am going with a sealed box, what would be the ideal volume (Cubic Inches)?, I think it was reccomended to have .35 cubic feet for this sub, sound about right?

Chea, 4runnerteen...I am looking to see where I can get a decibel read... But might have a lil problem... One of my subs is making a squeeky noise... Ganna have to get it checked.. I am thinking vc, but not too sure.. I wanna max out the amps, but have them on barely 1/4 way and they are pushing the crap out of them subs!!! Might have to bypass my crossover and go straight from radio to amps... I wuld do a vid, but dont know if it will do any justice as being in person... We will see... Can u put vids on here?? Oh... See if you can listen to some treo subs and amps... Those will be my next setup when these monsters blow.

Also, does anyone know where to get a 3 1/2" front and 4 1/2" rear suspension lift? I know this isnt a place to ask, but i really dont want to look thru 100,000,000 archives to try to find an answer.. LOL!!!

Well one of my cheap ass subs took a crap on me today. Recieving half it's rated power. Oh well. My other sub, box, and amp are all for sale. I'm going bigger but smaller at the same time you guys are going to be amazed at what's in store. I am exited. Though it may take a while I'm not making a bunch of money (in fact I work full time and make less than an illeagal refugee getting handouts from the feds).

Here you go
Dont mind the RF HE, its a FI "Q" 12" now but otherwise the same. Here is more pics of the build. Amps are Alpine PDX 100.1 and 150.4. There is also a storage space in the top of it for two chains a survival kit and jumper cables

i should have taken a picture of my buddies system in his old blazer before he wrecked it (saved all of the subs and amps though )
he was running 2 15" JBL subs..top of the line a few years ago.
and had 5000watts of total power.
HUGE wiring for his amps lol
was hitting in the 160db range at local audio contests in Tulsa, OK won quite a few of them..it would literally make the wax come out of your ears..and your nose start to run..and it made his glasses vibrate off of his head.

he was also running dual batteries and a MASSIVE output Alt.
the battery in the back of the blazer that was powering the system was imported from japan, again 2 or 3 years ago..it was TOP of the line battery..cost him about $400

I bought new two 15's. They are DC XL 15's. It is supposedly to be the best overall sub you can find. One of my old orion h2 15" blown so I had to get new subs. The box build is almost done. It is 8 cubes tuned to low 40hz. Can't wait to install them!
new box..
SLYTLYSCRAMBLED and toylocost, it seem like that we get bad luck with system lately. Do tell us what you have for new system toylocost.

But I did get a shot at a term lab the other day. And at my amps max and running everything at its peak that I can do now. I was only pulling a 152.8 on the termlab. I just need a new amp and I can really get some good excursion. Hopefully ill break 155 haha. But def need a new alt. Mines about to stop working lol

and oh, say no to cap. it is for weak. I have 270amps alt, two big batteries in the back, 50ft 1/0 gauges wire. I never thought for a second to get a cap.

just going by what the db meter said guys...everything was installed at a JBL retail store in Tulsa...he knew nothing about sound systems at the time..so he took his blazer in..and told them to make it capable of winning sound competitions around the area..and just started forkin over cash that he got from a wreck that wasn't his fault.
i'm sorry your high tech buddies can't hit 160db..but my dumb friend can ..i give no credit to him though LOL..it was ALL up to the shop that installed the equipment. it was a failry good sized box too. can't remember the configuration of the box though.
he busted out the windows of his blazer many a times..he kept his amps turned down pretty low all the time..because if not, then he would have gotten a ticket no doubt.

LOL. You have no idea.
I think Im going to put an 8 in it but its going to be an SQ system. Im going to deaden the car as much as possible. Maybe double/tripple in some places. I want it to be the quietest MR2 evar. The quieter it is to begin with, the better my system will sound.
As expected. They are lvl4XLs correct? If you wouldnt mind PM me with what you paid? Ive never had the balls to call them but have been interested a few times. If I know what to expect I may end up with a pair.

Hi, since we are talking about sound systems... my cargo area is always filled so no room for sub there. Considered vehicle-specific premolded enclosures but heard horror stories. Now, starting to look into "under seat" subs...anyone have experience with these and how are they working for you? I am looking at the Pioneer shallow sub and their under seat enclosure...8" or 10" depending on fit. Also, still running OEM CD unit, which preferably will continue to do so to maintain stock look...(hoping upgrading components will improve quality enough)...
Thanks!
