ANYWHO, guess what!
I finally got a system! 1600W Audiobahn amp driving two JL Audio 12" subs. Nothing special at all, esp. considering my Sony Xpold[ing diarrhea p.o.s.] head unit haha. But damn, it will thump and rumble. If only the speakers where a dual reflex setup, I hate the lag and the muffled-ness on fast bass lines...
anyone else have a factory amp between the stock head unit and the main harness connector??? It really threw me off when I was doing my install haha.

Heres mine
2 15"JL's custom box originally designed for my Honda. Crappy paint flat black looks like gloss when its on caulk..lol.
Pioneer head unit with Ipod control
I have crappy Sony mids and highs for now but will soon be upgraded

I got it all together.. Sorry I have been a lil buzy trying to get these damn viruses off my computer... here are some pics of the BEAST HEART!!! Sorry I don't know how to make smaller pics>>>
This is with hatch open...
Just a shot through back window... WTF is cargo space???
This is what you see when I'm riding with window down... Gotta love the logo!!!

Focal Access 6.5" $219 at Woofersetc.com .....they were $180 (and free shipping) when I got them (they are like $299 at Cartoys). I am running them on my stock 6 disc unit with an Alpine amp and they sound incredible...I have the bass turned down to -2 and I don't need a sub. Great speakers and a good amp will make the biggest difference in your system...spend the money on the speakers!
Also my entire system is stealth so I'm not a theft target.
I love great speakers...my home theater systems are all M&K (Miller & Kreisel). I have my best system in my living room...it would blow you away! I have another system I put together off e-bay that I use for Guitar Hero/Rockband stuff.

Well you are right, but that depends on what kind of deal you get....

I hear ya man. That is definetly the way to go for good sound. But I'll be the first one to admit I'm not mature enough yet to be building my system soley around SQ. lol. I'm planning on a nice set of JBLs so that I can turn them down and get good SQ but still be able to get that head turning bass when I want it.
Right now the 2 15s I have in the Camry are so loud that I have the bass on the HU turned to -7 (as low as it will go) and the sub output turned to 0 (as low as it wil go) and the remote control know for the amp turned all the way and its still not quiet enough for good SQ. But with the subs off it sounds like poopoo. Im going to sell those to my brother lol.

Now in my Jeep, the story is different. Since it is either open (no top) or not insulated...with top...a sub is great for boosting the bass. Problem is whatever you put in is totally exposed to a thief.
Good luck with your system...

I think if you got some shallow mount subs and made a longer thin box you could fit them behind the side panels in the cargo area and still have the stock plastic there. Like in the same place that the rear speakers in the 2 gens are. Still totally invisible... That would be cool.

I still wouldn't mind having a sub, but I don't want my 4Runner broken into like my past vehicles and I hate filling up my cargo area. I have really been amazed at the nice crisp tight bass these put out. I have had Alpines, Kenwoods, and Polks and these absolutely destroy them. I actually put 5.25's in the rear first (same speakers different size) and they were a different story. The output coupled with the timbre match makes these very sweet.

HA HA HA!!! CHEA, it is LOUD and yet I'm still only using 1 amp on subs. I have them running on 2 ohms for now, but I already want to go bigger tho!! LMAO!!! I haven't gotten decibel tested yet... I really want to wait til i get another amp, but might just have to go get some numbers...LOL. I Pretty much have my roof flex a good 1/2 inch and the only thing keeping it from going more is the ribs from the luggage racks LMAO!!! I so need to dynamat the roof!!!

Chea, I was a lil worried about some1 stealing my subs, but when it took 3 of us just to get the box in there EMPTY, I realized it would be easier for them to just steal the whole damn vehicle!!! LMAO!!! I was even ganna bolt it down, but (again) when i had to lay on top of it and bounce up and down just to cram it between the wheel wells (LMAO!!) I figured "what the hell. I don't think it is ganna move or be able to get taken out in a few minutes..." Besides that, you need to open at least one back door and the hatch to just unscrew the subs alone...oh and I have an alarm system too!! And if I'm in a bad place, I guess I would just have to sleep in it!! LOL. Furthermore, I think I am using my cargo space for some great cargo!!! LMAO!!! Just my .02 tho... Every 1 is different... If anything, you could also put a small sub in the compartment area on the side in the cargo area.. That wouldn't stick out too much.

Not so funny thing happened today...it was funny because I was in the act of typing in this thread about getting broken into...after I posted my wife called me to tell me someone knocked the window out of our Sequoia and grabbed her purse that was under the seat...they left the DVD player and headphones.....
the stupid thing...THE DOOR WAS UNLOCKED AND THEY KNOCKED THE WINDOW OUT....Yes she got a lecture about locking the car.
They also hit her Mom's 4Runner...

I don't think I used a line level converter because the amp already had one built in. I think I either tapped the speaker level outputs and used speaker level inputs on the amp or I tapped the outputs before the factory amp. I get no weird ground loop noise or anything. I actually bought a line level converter and ended up not using it.
The two main reasons I did it was stealth look, and I wanted to keep my in dash six disc and have an iPod input.

one thing you all need to remember is that there is a major diference from an SQ system and a bass system. the image above with the braces and all is a bass system but i would lay odds that it would fail horridly for a SQ system. also when building a bass system double layering the 3/4 mdf is the ONLY way to go. resin is not a brace. it simply adds 3db or 1 octive remeber a flat sheet of fiberglass flexes alot. the rod braces work great.and for a system that size sono tube is the only way to port. for those guys looking for a SQ system think simple. a simple 10 like whats above is great. specially in a runner. it is eassy to fall into the "biggest baddest" syndrome, but in the end all you did was spend a lot of money for a lot of sound you will never listen to. i really like the 10 in above but hope the enclosure is not bigger tha 1.5cuft sealed. it is very clean though. SQ is often harder to build because of labor to make sound and look it right. bass systems usually cost more because of the amount of equipment used. quality power costs mega dollars as does the subs

I think I need to port my box, if I push one sub in an inch, the other pops out an inch. Maybe thats why it seems so muffled...
its def. way too air tight though.

here is a simple equation to determine which enclosure is right for your sub. because not all subs like ported enclosures
To help you design the correct enclosure for the driver you are using, first find the Efficiency Bandwidth Product of the driver:
EBP = Fs / Qes
50 or less = best used in a sealed enclosure.
50 - 90 = flexible enclosure options.
90 or greater = best used in ported enclosure.
Optimum volume for sealed enclosure (cubic ft ):
You may substitute any Qtc between 0.50 and 1.50 in place of 0.70 in both equations (both must have same value) to experiment with enclosure size. Qtc of 0.70 is generally considered an optimum alignment, with very good transient response, low cut-off frequency, and flattest response to the cut-off - See Qtc.
Note: You must always choose a Qtc higher than the driver's Qts!
Find alpha: X = (0.70 / Qts)^2 - 1
Then calculate enclosure volume: Vb = Vas / X
System resonant frequency: Fcb = 0.70 / Qts ( Fs)
Optimum volume for ported enclosure (cubic ft):
These formulas were engineered by D.B. Keele Jr. using the vented enclosure alignments developed by A.N. Thiele.
Enclosure volume: Vb = 15 Vas (Qts^2.87)
Theoretical cut-off frequency: F3 = 0.26 Fs (Qts^ -1.4)
Tuning frequency: Fb = 0.42 Fs (Qts^ -0.9)
If an ideal box is to large for your application, choose an enclosure size in cu.ft. then
Find: F3 = (Vas / Vb)^1/2 (Fs) (an exponent to 1/2 is the same as taking the square root)
New tuning frequency: Fb = (Vas / Vb)^0.32 (Fs)
Note: these formulas for the "ideal" enclosure provide a flat response curve, reasonably low F3, and fair transient response. The smaller you make the enclosure, the larger the peak in the response curve, the higher the F3, and the poorer the transient response. Enclosures much smaller than the "ideal" alignment will sound muddled and boomy.
also here is a great location to find vent size

there is no prob with the push pull. depending on the air space in the enclosure and your subs specific needs, you may just need to make a divider to separate the two subs. if there is indeed way to much air for a sealed enclosure then a port may help. your best bet is to find all the info on your sub and use
