Anyone Ever re-build their 3.4? HOw much HP?

Hey all,

I am going to be getting a 3.4 V6 with about 20k on it. My question is there, has anyone ever re built their motor?

I was planing on bringing it to the mechine shop to have it bored and stuff, I figured I would get some HP from that.

I was just wondering if its worth it or not......

sorry to be so random , I am on sleeping pills atm and Hydrocodone...

You are not going to get much of anything from enlarging the bore.

Where you are going to find power is in the cylinder head. A properly done port job will wake this engine right up.

URD can port heads to your needs and install larger valves if you want.

Gadget,

So here is where i am right now.

I have total of 13"s of lift and max speed on the HWY is about 70 - 80 in 3rd gear...!!

I would like to get my lost power back and I am unsure of what would be the best way.

RIght now I have 35's and for gears I have 529's. What do you think i should do ? Take the motor out and have it port/tuned/ etc? Buy a supercharger? is the supercharger really worth the 3k? I mean , I need a different kind of HP, not sure if the TRD supercharger will give me 100+HP or heck even 50Hp would be good.....

Having the motor rebuilt seems like the best way ...

Actually a SC can be had new for under $2k from a few vendors and ebay is a good source and 60 or so HP is a nice jump from 183 crankhorse.

Go with the SC, and ported heads. People have had talks of superchargers going for $1700. Get the 7th injector too, probably find a SC and the 7th as a bundle for around 2k.

If you havent already, you might also want a hi-flow cat.

I never really liked the idea of boring your motor out, I've always assumed that logicly it would take away a lot of life from your motor, but give you some power in return.

What would the benefits of porting be? i mean specifically what can be expected? I would like to get a sc for more power, but i can't justify that kind of gas price

I'd go with a S/C man...I wish they made em for the 2nd gen, I'd buy one in a hearbeat!

Porting will let your motor breath more. Heres what I always remember. H/C/M Headers, Converter, and Muffler. Those three right there will let your motor breath and you'll get more out of your motor. Dont forget an intake. The deck plate mod is good if you plan on driving in some deep water on trails. Or just get a cone filter and adapter. Just remove the airbox. With cone filter I've always recommended heat sheilds for the summer cause theirs no use for a cone filter when nothing but hot air comes in from motor heat and weather.

With all of that you'll probably squeeze a good 50Hp. Stay away from ebay parts unless they are brand name. You'll find too many cheaply made look-alikes that will rust or just wont last very long.

Oh, and by the way, letting it breath more will help you save a little more on gas depending on how you drive. (if you dont floor it too much you're bound to save)

I recommend Magnaflow hi-flow converters.

Most of your power now is going to come from headers.

While your at it, buy me some headers too!

Dont rebuild your motor, do yourself a favor and see how she runs after the headers & supercharger. Trust me, you'll be more than happy.

Best bang for the buck.....BY FAR.....will be a supercharger.
If I had the $2K right now I would get one in a second.

Gadet has it right .Enlarging the bore wont increase power alone.I had a 75 civic that i put a larger accord motor in it.Yes it had more power. But when i went to sell it i put the stock motor back in it and had to replace the carb.I put on a Japanese domestic carb and the thing was a rocket ship.I could easily chip the tires in third !My boss drove it and he was shocked,he couldn't believe how fast the car was.So what i learned then was displacement alone does equal more power.
