Anybody have lightbars/sirens ?
I have a job as a paid by call firefighter-EMT lined up for when I turn 18 in March. I will need lights and sirens and I am poor. There is a departmental allowence but it is also slim. What are some good cheap options for a 4Runner. Thanks,
Lamm

Might wanna talk to a local police department about their auctions. I know they sell their old police cars, if you talked to them you could probably get some of their old light bars for cheap or maybe even free if you're lucky.

I can't speek for the entire country but here the rule is solid red, red white or red yellow/amber. Just NO blue, cops only. I think I may get a mini lightbar (red), a high beem flasher and two red strobes for the rear. When a call comes in you can run hot (15 faster mph tham traffic) so I figure I should be seen. Everybody here does 10 over anyways so I will be pushing 55 ina 35 zone, better be careful.

My truck used to be a volenteer fire/rescue truck They had some plain driving lights hooked up on the bumper and run inside to a little altenating current switch thing.. Turn the car on and hit two switchs.. one to send power and another to flip the power between the two lights and they blink back and forth in a wig wag pattern. They also put a pretty good sized pa under the hood... They left me the wig wag system... the pa speaker, but no siren... Also got the topper which i took off and want to put back on.. topper has some little firefighter logos on it... I always get asked what department i work at. I think they also had a red white light bar on the topper but they took that

obxfishen,
I know it sounds confusing but the structure of the PLain Township FD is screwy. The department I will report to keeps 3 people there at all times, 24 on 48 off. In addittion, when the truck or tanker rolls or a med call comes in while med 1 is already on a call, the paid on call FF/EMTs get called to the station through red-center. You get $16 for a med call and $20 for fire-rescue. I like it because the way the paid on call system works I can still go to school and stuff like that for now.

I have a small LED unit that is like the first link data had. It flashes red in color, has like 12 different patterns and is mounted up behind my rear view mirror. There is a cigarette plug that I pull down when I use it. The unit is small, VERY bright, and won't kill your battery if left on during a call. Mine is a Show Me Power model 11.8000 Red made by Sierra Products Inc. Was given to me by my department so I don't know cost.

This is an auction site that police dept. use to unload their confiscated, unclaimed lost and found, and used stuff.
I've seen a fair share of light bars go through there.
My dept. uses this. We have a massive amount of stuff that we used to auction off all the time but we found that this site is just more convenient then setting up in a parking lot, getting the personnel, transporting, etc, etc, etc.

I bought 2 police detective cars at auction this last year. So, I have 2 100 watt siren speakers (not the siren, and they are heavy) and 1 electronic wig-wag if you want to pay for shipping on any of that. I am near Seattle.
