any recalls due to rust on 3rd gen runners?

the rust on the rear differential and chassis on my 99 4runner always bothered me but i thought I was SOL because of its age.....then i heard about the Tacoma recall and now a buzz on a pending Tundra recall due to rust......anyone know if there is anything cooking for 3rd gen 4runners?

No rust recall for us. The 3rd gen's were actually constructed right and in japan unlike the taco's and tundras.

Just depends where you live and whether you hose the salt off religiously. My bottomside is mint and I don't live in the desert...

ok, i feel alot better, like haddix said, if i buyout deal happens, i'd be in a situation where i would be in the middle because there is nothing wrong with mine and would love or hate to get a new one.....love to get an FJcruiser....but i would have to do payments all over again..i got my runner brand new in 99 and has not let me down...ever.

FTFA: "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into excessive rust on Tundra frames in October after receiving 20 complaints of "severe frame corrosion." NHTSA said then it had received 15 reports alleging the spare tire, stowed under the truck bed, separated from the frame. Five other reports alleged broken brake lines because of the rust."

What the... what? The NHTSA opens an investigation after only 20 complaints? I would think Yotatech alone could produce 20 complaints about 3rd gens. Maybe we shoud start writing. The problem might be that if the damage doesn't have the ability to directly cause and accident or injury/death, then the NHTSA could probably care less. Maybe a severly rusted diffy housing could leak out all the gear oil and fail catastophically, causing an accident. Or blown axle seals could leak onto the brakes, causing an accident?
