Another LOCKER help thread
I've done a lot of searching and I've pretty much decided to go with a Lock-Right for my 99 4Runner. Can anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy one of these? I have searched quite a bit, but can't find info. ALSO, if I have 4.10 gears and I was to go with a factory E-Locker, did Toyota make the E-Locker with 4.10 or only 4.30 gears? I was told that all of the factory ones are 4.30. Thanks guys!

Lockright part number 1620. 230 from justdifferentials on ebay. or if you want to make a trip down to baton rouge there is a 98 4runner with the rear diff lock that just got on the lot 9/26/09 at pull a part. id have pulled it except i already have the lockright.

X2, they did make the elocker with 4.10s. Since you are running 285s, you might want to bump up to 4.88s anyways (if you get an elocker, you can still swap the ring and pinion with whatever ratio you want - you'd just have to regear the front to). The Lock-Right is cheaper, but it's sure nice to be able to select when and where you want the diff locked or open.
My choice was between an elocker retrofit or an ARB. I choose the ARB because I wanted the air compressor anyways. Now I can lock/unlock when I want, but I can also fill my tires, air beds, innertubes for beer floating, etc. I regeared mine while I was in there anyways and saved time and $$.

If you find an e-locker axle, it is easier to just get the whole axle if it is pretty cheap. The modifications are not hard IF you have the right tools.
Also, with the lockrite, you are going to be chirping around corners/ your tires may wear a bit faster.

I ultimately would love to have the E-Locker and I think I should be able to find the whole axle in the $500 range. If the gears are 4.10 and match the front, then it should be a pretty simple swap, right? I'm more concerned with how to do the electrical wiring than the actual axle swap itself...

There are a few write-ups that cover how to do the wiring, you just have to get the right harness. Try using car-part.com to find a 4.10 e-locker axle. Some will let you get most of the factory wiring and the switch from the truck it came out of

Google "4runner elocker retrofit" and you'll get some step-by-step articles so you can decide if the wiring part of the job is something you want to try or not. I see entire axles w/ elockers/4.10s on ebay and craigslist here and there, usually $500-$900 here in CA. If you get just a elocker 3rd, you need to have the resources to cut metal and weld.

That's where I looked, found a 4.10 on the there. Now to negotiate and find the proper harness, switch. Are the 4Runners pre-wired for the E-locker and you just "plug and play"?

Some are pre-wired, some aren't. You have to check either behind the dash or under the rear drivers side seat under the carpet, one of the e-locker threads should have that in there

No problem, I figured you'd eventually get back to me. I couldn't get down to get that 4Runner, but it was a heck of a deal. $7,500 with 75K miles and E-Locker. Still kicking myself over that one for sure. Now I just need to bite the bullet and put an E-Locker in mine. I was thinking, will a junkyard give me anything for my axle that is in good shape when I buy their E-Locker axle?
