Alternator woes
Ok...loong time lurker, newb poster...HI!
so, after a loong, fun day of wheelin and muddin, I find out my Alternator is no longer charging my battery...Just curious if the Alt is toast, or maybe if I knocked something loose that Im not seeing...
Rig's Lifted 3in body, and got ALOT of mud in the bay, and alternator.
Or, did I just coat and short out my alternator, and now need to go drop the 2 bills on a new one..instead of new shocks

Most of the time with an alternater only one diode or another part will short out. Therefore take it to a battery shop and they should be able to repair it for $30-60 and you can still get the shocks.

I live in Tacoma, the best place to go around here I think is Budget Batteries, but I don't know if you have those up north. There are actual alternator shops as well. Usually they have names like Auto Electric or something along those lines.

Yep, the best place to take the alternator for testing is an auto electric shop that does routine starter and alternator rebuilds. They may be able to rebuild the old one for much cheaper than buying one at the auto parts store. It may be as simple as mud sticking the brushes so if you're mechanically inclined you could try taking it apart before bringing it over and see if it might be something obvious.
