If I remember right, my '95 had similar symptoms several years ago. I can't remember if it was the Alt or the battery. Charge the battery overnight and see if the idiot lights stay on. You also might check the voltage output from the battery.

well,
i tried to get out my voltimeter but it wasn;t working....why i do not know, and My99, i was careful with my lights but lastnight i drove in the dark with my lights on and my stereo going and my truck ran fine and my battery didn't seem to drop to anymore than what it was at...around 12 volts...and it started fine this morning...even tho i never drove it today it seems to be fine...just for the battery light and the brake light stuck on...so i just don;t know if the alternator is hooped....or if there is a bad conection or what it is? so thanks for the help so far

when those two light come on it means the alternator is going bad--trust me been there and done that
if I remember right that is the Toyota way of indicating the problem
go get a new one or break it open and replace the brushes.
4x4 wire has write up on the procedure to replace the brushes

well i think i might have figured out the problem...i think that inside the alternator is just dirty...i went threw a rather deep mud puddle...about 3.5 feet deep...and almost right after that the lights came on..so i am gonna try and clean this one...then if still no luck then i want to find a 120 amp alty, anybody know of any good places for this?
thanks cody

93 amp
Well...it turns out that all of my brushes were shot and nothing was saving my old alternator...so i decided to go with an automatic alternator...it puts out 70 amp at 12 volts and 93 at 14.8 volts...i do not know where there would be a different alternator for an automatic...anybody know why
well thanks for the help.
