The best way to figure out what size you have is by physically measuring the rotor... You can easily do that by just turning the wheel one way and going behind it and measure

My guess that the rotor size is used for astetics. The smaller rotor would look odd with a 17 inch wheel. Matching the wheel size makes sense because I know when I walked through the lot it wasn't exactly easy to pick the 16s from the 17s since the space between the rotor and the wheel was the same.
The dealer could change the wheel size, but the vin would still list it as a 16 inch wheel, and when you get parts they always want the vin because situations like this.

calg3- so far the v8 is hardly feeling the diff! definitely a plus toyota decided on for the 4th gens. thanx for the props.
slc punk- thanx 2u2!
sd4runner- i look forward to getting down to hollister w/you, or anywhere we can run over a hill!
pistonslap/lance- now the two of you are adding another component to the mix -- rotor size. i was under the impression it was calipers alone that were different, do either of you have a measurement? lance, you had 16" wheels stock correct?

michael - the rotor size is what we were mostly concerned with to begin with, i think. there are some with 12something" rotors, while others of us have 13something" rotors ... i believe i have the 13" ones, and will measure them tomorrow to check (so hold off on shipping the wheel until i can get back to you about the rotor size, i guess) ...

haha, yeah, i think there's a lot of confusion here, and i know we can figure it out.
tomorrow, you measure your rotors, and i'll measure mine, and we'll see what we find.

MIchael,
I emailed you the pdf of the launch material of the 4th gen, listed the gearing as you asked in another thread. It also states the rotor size as per details at launch time. States standard is 12.6" rotors front and only the SPort with 17" wheels has 13.3". See page 26 on the pdf. Hopefully this helps to clear up some of the confusion.

Thank you Andries
I hope this clears all the confusion up on the what size wheel we can add....
Those on a similar note, the 04's Limited's now come w/ the 13.3" disc so you guys are all stuck w/ 17's.

ahriman,
I actually have 12" calipers with 17" wheels. I have been able to fit 16" rims (MB Motoring) on my front driver calipers. I am still seeking 16" rims. I just cannot find one I really really like. That's my problem.
I, like GoodTimes, think that you also have the 16" rims. You also have 16" black steelies, no?
I hope that clears up confusion about what I have.

Just on a side note. If you go to the Goodyear website, they now have the Wrangler MT/r in 17"
285/70/17
275/70/17
265/70/17
and for the brave 305/70/17
All are LT as well so strong sidewalls
http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...ea=Light+Truck
So no more exuses for mud tires in 17"

I want my truck to look tuff, but also look clean. After all, tough guys should look good too
Anyways, MTR and Firestone MTs are still on my list of choices. If I can find a reasonably priced 16" I like, I will go with Firestone MTs. Otherwise, 275 MTR on stock rims.

ok, so i measured and you are correct lance, i do have the 12.6" rotors. this implies that the different part numbers i found for calipers corresponds to this rotor size since i had the 17" alloys stock. again, you are correct -- do not trust the stealer
on the other side of this (uhom, close your eyes now, i am about to gloat), this means i can fit _all_ (or most anyway) 16" rims. instead of trimming more, i would rather get a bit more backspacing and tuck them purdy tires 'o mine up under the fenders. right now the a-arm is hitting a tad on the coil so i will probably have to get the uniballs. oh, well it is just $ anyway right?

Maybe the hideous annoying sound I been hearing is caused by this.

Anyway, you'll see rub and scrape marks. If you do, that's the result of too much lift unfortunately. This also means that your upper ball joints will go bad pretty fast too due to the extreme angles it faces when the arm hits the coils. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here though.
Regardless, good luck. The only way around this is lowering the lift or spending the big bucks on some upper a-arms.
EDIT:
Or you can just leave it like the way it is. As long as the upper ball joints don't go bad I don't see why not though.
