Advice real needed

Ok I don't know where should i post this thread, so i'll post it here.
Here is the sitiation: I'm trying to sell my truck ( https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f108...runner-119664/ ). And one guy on this forum whose nick name is DeathCougar is realy interested on buying this truck. But the problem is that i live in OH, and he lives in WA. I don't have any experience with selling anything like that on line. So maybe anyone who has this experience can tell me safe way for bouth of us??
I would be realy thankfull!!!

I just bought a car out of state. I had a cashiers check sent from my bank to the seller, bigger banks have numbers the buyers can call to verify the authenticity of the check. Once the check cleared I arranged to pick up the car. It's as simple as that. I would NOT do a wire transfer, once the money is transferred there is no recourse if you get scammed. With a cashier's check the bank can help you.

I had planned on sending him a money order. But we are just both trying to be 100% safe.

We both have a gentlemans accord, and are both very confident that neither is trying to scam the other. But we want to be as safe as possible. Any/all help or info is greatly appreciated! thanks.

Depends on the deal...

For these sort of sales, lots of people use certified bankers checks or bank drafts... Then once you have the money, its up to him for the delivery of the vehicle.

...it all depends on what you guys decide to do, but as the owner of the vehicle, you have the final say.

Make sure you have an AutoCheck (www.autocheck.com) for the car, I use it to confirm how long the seller says they owned the car. Beyond that, you just have to trust the seller to a certain degree and know that when buying a used the car the potential for something to be covered up is great.

You should make a simple contract that explains any conditions and how the transaction is expected to be carried out. I bought a car in Denver that way. I paid a deposit, flew to Denver with a cashier's check, and drove home. However, we had a back and forth on e-mail that we considered to be a contract. That way it's documented should anything bad happen.

Here is an outline of the first part of the plan:

he is going to send me a bill of sale, and a contract to sign in the mail. I will then send him back a pre-determined sum of money, and the contract signed. I will keep the bill of sale, and a copy of the contract.

Alas since he is in OH, driving it here is an not an option for him or I.

This sale has been documented in Email, PM, and now this thread so there is ample documentation.

Keep the ideas coming guys, all very good points!

Private eBay listing? he only allows you to bid on the item then ou pay via paypal. There would be the cost of the listing and the eBay commision charge and paypal would get their cut, but you could think of it as paying for security, or just the price of doing business.

after that just have it sent out to you by a car hauler.

Well that is an idea. certainly makes it the most secure. However, Ebay and Paypal would take their respective cuts of the sale.

I sold my evo this way, Just sighn up for paypal, and a paypal sellers account, then he will send the money to you through paypal, they can insure it for him, then he will arrange with a shipping company to ship the vehicle it will cost about 500 plus or minus to ship it. very safe this way, also you should send him a sales contract, then when you get the money just overnight him the title and he is legally covered as well. dont waste your money on the ebay listing, it will be alot.

Thanks a lot guys!!!!!
So far, this is what we decided to do. I'm sending him a two copies of contract. He sighn them both, keep one for himself and sending me second one with cashiers check. As soon as chek clears, i'm shipping the truck to him. When he resive the truck, i'm sending him a title too.
Does it sound right???

Can't you use paypal w/o the ebay part? Would be a lil bit cheaper...assuming paypal does take a cut.

That sounds like a fair plan. Only if I was the buyer I'd want the title as soon as my payment was cleared. But it doesn't need to be that way. Whatever you guys think will work best for you. There's many ways to do it, just go about which way you seem most comfortable. You both seem like stand up people so I doubt either has anything to worry about.

I don't have paypal account. And even if i had one, what is the point paying someone else, if you can do that without any cuts? Isn't a cashers check safe??

Paypal takes too large of a cut. No sense paying them if the two of us are trustworthy guys who stick to the contract. Paypal makes enough money off me anyways lol.
