Adding tranny fluid
I was thinking of checking my tranny fluid level, and maybe topping it off, I don't know what fluid my tranny has in it, would it be ok to add some that I bought at a store a long time ago?
Also, what are the correct steps in checking the A/T fluid level?
Thanks a lot,
-Bryan

Most cars you check the Tranny fluid while the car is running, and on some, you check it with the tranny in neutral. Look in your owner's manual or on the tranny fluid dipstick, and it should tell you what procedure to use to check it.
Also, it should list what type of tranny fluid to use in your owner's manual or on the dipstick. And just like checking your oil, add it till it reaches the proper level on the dipstick!

for my 2nd gen (92) with the 3.0 auto you start at P (with the engine on) and go through each gear pausing for a sec and then back up to P and check the tranny oil (with the engine still on) like you would the engine oil.....i've noticed that if my engine is really hot that the reading will be a little off....so i usually let it cool off a bit and then check it.................
my truck uses ATF Dexron (sp?) II (it says D II on the train plug)
