ADD Help

I just wanna get a couple things straight....

1) for 2nd gen, the manual hub conversion is as simple as unbolting the live hubs and rebolting the manual hubs...more or less.

2) Would it not be necessary to disable the ADD system when putting on manual hubs. Would that not mean that it would be a redundant system? It seems to me that those parts would need to be extracated in order for the manual hubs to do their job the most efficient.

And by the ADD system, I mean all the vaccuum hoses and actuators as stated in this write up:

Defeating the ADD System

I read all other posts on this, but this particular issue was never really raised. All say that it is only necessary to bolt on new hubs and yer good to go. And also, the decreased strain on the cv joints, is that due to the fact that both front half shafts will no longer be spinning? Because I will also be cranking the T-bars to level the rig and I thought that that would vreate an even more extreme angle and stress on those joints even with manual hubs.

Post No it is not necessary

Hey dude! No you won't have to disconnect anything. The way the ADD system works is the front half shafts/CVs constantly turn at road speed with the wheels and the differential engages only when you select 4WD. With the aisin hubs the half shaft lock is disengaged when you select 'unlock', all this does is free the half shafts and CV joints from turning with the wheels. What this means is their associated drag is eliminated making it easier for the wheels to turn in 2wd mode = less wear on the CVs and better gas mileage. When you select 'lock' all you have done is restore the 'stock' condition you had before you installed the aisins to get 4wd just use the lever in the cab as normal. The beauty of this is in the summer when you don't need 4wd a lot you just unlock and enjoy the savings in the winter when you might need 4wd to pull away at a light you just lock 'im and forget 'im and use the ADD system just like you are now. Hope this answered your question. Cheers Aviator
forgot to add... it is pretty much just a bolt off/bolt on operation just check the other posts to make sure you have the right parts first there were a few minor but critical differences between the generations and there are a few tricks to save trouble and blood loss. Aviator

Yep, as Aviator said, no need to disconect all that stuff.

You can later down the road if you want to, but I plan on leaving all of my plumbing intact.

Be sure to stop by our Tech section.
There are a few hub write-ups in there that will guide you step by step to convert over to manual hubs.
