A340E pretty much shot. Need some advice.
The A340F (V6 4x4 Auto think that makes it an A340F) in our 01 Milenium Edition 4Runner was slipping on and off. The other day it gave out on my girlfriend while on the interstate. Since then the transmission will not engage. I pulled the oil pan and noticed a good amount of metal shavings so I cleaned them out, changed the filter, and buttons everything back up hoping for the best. Still no luck. I then pulled the transmission to check the TQ Converter because it sounded like something was spinning/rattling freely at idle in the transmission. But the TQC looked fine. I took the TQC to AAMCO and they seemed to think it was ok and uncommon for a yota TQC to go. I have yet to pull codes but has anybody had this happen to them? I know I probably should just get the tranny rebuild but I definitley don't have the money to do so. Could this be as simple as bad silenoids?
Thx!

Solenoids are not gonna make the worn clutches in the trans better. you need an overhaul. You can always try your luck with a used one.
And to answer your other question about E or F. Should say on the side of trans. Either on a tag or on case itself. Not sure the difference but I do know that there were some with a cable, some without. some with 4 solenoids and some with 5. But again IMO your trans is done. Either need a rebuild or a used donor.

Maybe not.....
I think your pump is failing. Filter and magnets in pan should be catching the metal from the failing pump. Pump is easy change. You may want to have the shop replace the pump and put it back in for a pressure test. Its high risk but equally may put you back on the road. Other options is to get a low mileage unit from salvage yard installed. A rebuilt unit installed is about $3000.

Hmmm... that's a good idea. The pump just unbolts inside the bell housing right? I have the tranny on the ground so I can pull it to check. I like the sounds of that better.
Can I pull the pump without effecting other internal components?

So the pump is pressed in so I didn't get to remove it but there is absolutely no shaft play in the pump. Also, my girlfriend added that the shifter itself was at times hard to put in gear and put up resistance going into park and into drive. How common is it that pump goes verses the O/D clutches which seem to be a common failure?

have a 99 transfer case if needed- not sure if this helps you.
From a 99 SR5 automatic. Likely needs rebuilt itself. Money not really an object... clearing out the garage.
Just trying to be helpful I am a manny tranny guy myself.
