I have a 99 T4R with 217,000 miles and a bad transmission. It is a California Emission vehicle manufactured 5/99. My question is will a federal emissions transmission fit. I am also a member on T4R.org and posted the same question there. A member there said that he did some research and the only difference is the pan and the filler gauge tube and that if they could be used off of my old tranny, then it would work. I just wanted to get others opinions on this. I can get a federal transmission for $350 and a California one for $1100.

I dont live in Cali but...is their emission inspection really that freaking detailed that they will know the difference? your truck aint new either so, unless there are some serious emission nazi's...I would go for the $350 one in a heart beat.

 

I dont think it is a matter of the emissions being part of the transmission, I just know when you go to buy a transmission, it lists the two different versions.

 

350 sounds super cheap.....even 1,100 sounds cheap....salvage yard?
