99 Tacoma Starter will not shut off

I have a 99 Tacoma V6.

Tonight, my tacoma will not shut off WITHOUT the key in. The starter kept turning the car over. So I'm sure that my starter is fried. But why did it just happened? So I had to pull the battery out (took the negative wire off the battery).

Does anybody know what the heck is my problems?

Is it the ignition switch?
In the morning I'm gonna check the key ignition switch and see if it's stuck. I can easily pull the the key in and out. It just happened randomly when I tried to park the truck.
PLEASE HELP!

the same thing happened to mine, I'm 99% sure its the contacts in the starter, you can replace the contacts and plunger for under $20, or get a reman, i replaced the contacts in mine for $5 and its been a year so far, no issues.

there are tons of threads on this topic, try a search

Starter is the problem. replace it, or repair it.

pretty much, though before it stuck on i had problems with it clicking and not starting unless i cycled the key a few times (common contact problem)
then one day i started it and noticed after it started, the starter was still spinning!!! so i turned off the ignition and it kept cranking for about 5-10 sec then stopped by itself, by then i had the hood open and was at work getting the cable off....

Damm...again I'm a Newbie to this forum.

I really appreciate your replys.

I 'm glad it's just the starter. I thought it would be a stuck ignition. Anyhow, I'm guessing I fried my starter? The starter was cranking for a good 2 minutes before i was able to find a 10mm wrench to take it off. So you guys think just fixing the contacts will fix it?

Or screw it, off to Autozone for a million dollar starter. =)

That was happening to me too!! Just didn't have time to get around to fixing it. Again, thanks for your comment/info!

Thanks for the fix guys. I replace the dam starter. If I had been proactive, I couldn't just fixed the contacts. So instead of spending $20, I spent a $100. Well at least i have lifetime warrantee!

You'll need it! Most people I talk to have to replace the reman starter every couple of months.

Just make sure you get a Nippon-Denso Starter. Keep the old one and rebuild it with the contacts and plunger. Then you have a spare.
