If so, how are your fog light wiring holdin up? I have heard horror stories about people repalcing just the bulbs and melting their stock wiring harnesses.

Austin, I am running relays on all my lights (high beams, Low beams, Fog lights) I think just replacing the bulb is asking for trouble, the trucks are under wired as it is. Over loading the harness is just asking for it. It is super simple to wire in relays.

Yea, they appear to, but it might just be a better marketing picture.

They're made in Germany. I'm tellin' you, the lamp bodies I linked above are EXACTLY the same as the OEMs. Right down to the numbers imprinted on the lamp bodes. Yea, the brackets that came with them are different, but that's why I mentioned in my original post that if you ALREADY have the OEM brackets, then the ones I linked above are direct replacements.

If I get some time. Won't be able to host them till Monday, but EVERYTHING about the lamp bodies is indentical.

Let me ask you this: Do the bulbs mount from the bottom of the housing or from the rear? On the OEM fogs, the bulbs mount from the bottom and the housing is shorter. On the aftermarket Hella Micro DEs, the bulbs mount from the rear of the housing (I just checked mine and compared).

Those Hella's are very good lights, the best lights you can buy at Advanced Auto Parts/Auto Zone.

Ian,

I was curious on how you wired up your all the lights. I agree the Runners are under wired. I wanna know how you wired them up to the relays? So far, I have upgraded my head lights with a higher wattage bulb, but I UPGRADED the wiring. By upgrading, I just bought a wiring harness that was made with a thicker gauge wires that connected between the new higher wattage bulb and the stock wiring harness. Please enlighten me on how you have yours setup. Thanks.

I don't even know what to do, I just replaced the left fog with a regular halogen H3 and that one wont work at all. So now the whole fog light won't work.

Check your bulbs ground connection. If there's corrosion where the bulb flange touches the lamp housing, it will keep the bulb from coming on. Use some fine sand paper or wire brush to clean them up. Once they're clean, you might want to put some anti-corrosion grease (stuff you use on battery terminals) on the contact points to slow the broke down a bit. Check all the connections for corrosion too.

pfdaxe:
I've got a couple side-by-side pics of both my old OEM lights and the new ones. I'll post up tomorrow (can't get to my hosting site til then). The H3 bulbs mount from the rear on both the new and the old OEM set.

New vs old comparison pics.

Here some shots of the new vs. old OEMs:

I repainted everything, and its all remounted. I decided to re-use the OEM connector with the new rubber boot which covers the rear of the lamp body since the old one was full of corrosion. So, I cut off the Hella connector and soldered the OEM Toy connector on (didn't want to rewire the whole truck).

those look different from the stock fog lamps. also the stock fogs are made by Koito, not Hella.

got this pic from another thread here in YotaTech:

According to the photo name you've posted, those are from a 99-02 4Runner. But mine '01 fogs don't look like that and I ordered my fogs from the dealer 6-7 years ago?!?

Mine look like these.

After searching trdparts4u's replacement parts, maybe there's a different between "Dealer Installed" and "Factory Installed".

81220-35030 (LH)
81210-35050 (RH)

I agree that those are indeed dealer-installed, not factory-installed. Per the EPC, the part numbers for the fogs are the same for both the Limited and SR5 model grades.

I would have to agree with KZN185W because I looked into changing mine out with the Hellas but they are not Hellas...they are Koito. But then again, it could be model and year specific....I have a 2000 Limited. So question becomes...can I replace the FACTORY fog lights with these:

http://www.rallylights.com/hella/Micro_DE.asp#4runner
Part number: HL74560

Or am I gonna have to order them from the dealer???

H3c vs. H3 HID bulb...

I may install the H3c HID bulbs versus the H3 bulbs to maintain the same focal point. By using the longer H3 hid bulb, my beam pattern and/or cut off maybe affected. Thoughts??

So you can for sure fit HID's in the Micro DE Hella's?
