99 4runner cat back exhaust systems?
HI, I am new here but not to the world of the search button lol. Whats the deal? I can't find any other than two? I can find a lot more for the 98? Way is that? I have two cats, that's the deference? Can I use the 98 on my 99 V6? I searched for the last 2 hours. Jardine catback system still available? I see the JBA one for the 98 is a nice price but I don't know if I can use it or not. Looks like I can if I take out the one cat, But wont that set the O2 sensor off. The pipe has a spot on the pipe to put it in there.. If any body can give a hand on this and updated me, I would really appreciate it. I really don't want to spend 600 bucks 300 or less if I could. I don't want a muffler shop to pinch me out a plugged up exhaust system. Thanks again! Jeff

Wednesday morning at 8:30 it's getting an 2 1/2 cat back with a turbo muff for $90 + tax. Cheaper than I though. Maybe I'll see what it sounds like before they button it up. If I don't like it, I'll up grade it to a better muff.

if u go 2.5in pipe i wouldnt get a turbo muffler because thats what my thrush is, unless u like it really loud and raspy. plus i live in vermont so my mufler has rust holes on the top because it was like 25$ if that even.

I think OEM is your best best, I know it's $$$ but I think that is what you'll be happy with. If the money just isn't there you have to go with a OEM "type" from a muffler shop.
I like my TRD but it is a little noisy and more $$$ than OEM.
Do it right the first time. here is a link to the Cali spec muffler and tailpipe for a 99. It's actualy cheaper than the federal version at $351 plus shipping.

The elbow is well worth the 10 mins, the ISR on the other hand is just a visual mod. I did not notice any performance gains from removing it nor should I since it doesn't restrict airflow.

You can go 2.5" but might lose a little bit of torque down low. Positive side, you'll breathe better at higher RPM's. I've always recommended on 3.0/ 3.4L, to go 2.25" and combine that with a flow through muffler like a magnaflo and you should be happy. Remember, the larger the total muffler size (flow through design) the lower and quiter the tone is...there is a limit though. Hope this helps. Oh...and go custom. Just choose the shop wisely cause some will rape you and then do crappy work.

the next mufler im hopefully getting is a flowmaster hush power mufler, but they are over $100. on the flip side though crown vic police cars have hushpower muflers on them im not sure what size they are though but you could deffinetly get one from a police car in a junk yard.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it! Ya SNOW, I had the shop put me on a knock off Magna flow and 2 1/2 SS pipe with a tip for a $190 bucks out the door.. I figured when they were done pinching the pipe, it would flow like a 2 1/4 pipe any way LOL. Then A guy up the road from my work stopped and gave me a K&N cold air intake for FREE last night! Can't beat that! It was a good day!

Don't install that K&N, you will loose power.

Those dynos were back to back within 10 mins of each other. Both were with headers and a supercharger. It will cost you power regardless of if you have an exhaust or not.
The results surprised me as well but when you look at it the stock airbox is really about as good as you can get, no restriction in it to start with and it pulls nice cool air from the fender. Gadget also saw these same results.

OH, OK then, you had heat soak then. Your bound to lose some with back to back runs with a roost type blower or any type for that matter, even N/A. I know all about it, I have an 03 cobra with usual stuff making 496 rwhp. Every dyno is not the same nor can you have the same numbers every time. I have see some parts that work on one and not another. Dyno's can make you go mad chasing numbers.. I didn't notice a lost in HP but, it did make a dead spot in the RPM go away while climbing up my hill to go home. It does pull about the same or a little more than before going up it.

All of this testing was after about 10 back to back dyno pulls for tuning so they were all equally heat soaked, that was not the issue. After finding these results I talked to Gadget and he confirmed my findings, stock intake with elbow removed is the best for power.
