99 4runner cargo hatch question

I am in the middle of replacing the hydraulic struts on the rear hatch and need to find where i can get the grommets that are part of the upper attachment assembly . I called toyota dealer and they sell the whole thing as a package. They do not have the grommet part as a seperate item. Any ideas? Home Depot and Ace hardware don't carry the size required

Thanks,
Kurt

Which grommets are you talking about? I have a few sets of hatch struts I can sell you if you want them.

Depending on what you need try your local wrecking yard and just get the parts you need. Most yards will sell you the parts on the cheap or you can buy a used set of struts with the grommets. If they cost you more then $10 I would be amazed. I bought set of Land Cruiser lift gate struts for $10 for the pair. Also in a wrecking yard you may find a suitable replacement grommet from a similar strut as well. 90% of them never leave the vehicle so they are scrap anyway. Good luck

Ritzy,
Was the LandCruiser lift gate struts a direct replacement? Not fitment issues? The struts on my runner are getting weak and would like to know if the Land Cruiser ones will fit and I am guessing they are stronger than the runner's?

Thanks for the replies. The few auto-recycle yard I'v been to around the Sacramento Cal. area are picked pretty clean and I don't want a grommet that is already broken down. That is what I am replacing. I did find a site on-line cableOrganizer.com that had a wide range of grommets and not required to order a bulk amount. Hopefully these will work well!
