99 4Runner Auto -- Shifter Knob Removal????
Hi ALL...
I need help removing the shifter knob of my 99 4Runner Auto w/OD. I can't seem to be able to disconnect the wires that connect the OD button. I have pop out the OD housing but there two white wires attached to the contacts of the OD switch. Is there something i'm missing to take the knob out. I'm stumped and will appreciate any help....
Thanks in advance.....

the socket lock is on one of the wider side of the socket.
there is no socket plug. it's a one-piece socket, not a male and female socket pair.
the two white wires go to that white socket. snaking the two white wires is easy since it comes out from the bottom of the shifter. just make sure that they don't get snagged when the shifter is moved back and forth.

Thanks KZN, I really appreciate the help,
but this is where i'm having my issues. I can't seem to get the 2 wht wires off the prong. i can see inside the prong/plug(where it seems to be a tiny locking clip but no movement i make to remove or pull the wht wires free releases them)..... Any other ideas or places i can see the prong/plug having some of their connectors removed or disconnected......
I'll try and post some pix of the plug and issues i'm having.....
Thanks again.....

that's where the teeny-weeny screw driver comes in.. you use it to push the prongs upwards so the clip-lock is pushed upwards and then you can pull the wires.....but do all this after you have pulled the plastic lock on the socket upwards...
