98 toyota tocoma
I have just bought an 98 Toyota tocoma small pickup with an 2.4 litre engine in it.I ask the guy what kind of oil he used in it and he said 20 -50 weight.I didn't say nothing ,but I I thought that was an little thick to used .The truck has about 144,000 miles on it.I talk to another guy and he said that Toyota recommends 5w 30 oil.So that what I have done.I have notice when crank it up cold that I hear something that sound like an fan belt is loose, but I have check all belts and they are good and tight When it warms up it seems to not be as bad. What could it be?

Being a 2.4, I'll conclude that you have a 2wheel drive. The 2.4 is known as a 2RZ.
Factory recommended oil is 5w-30. I run 10w-30 in summer for my 3RZ(4wd version, 2.7L), & 5w-30 in winter. But I travel a lot, 40-50K miles a year.
Do you have more info on the noise? Chirp, squeal, changes with engine RPM? When exactly did it start doing it? Immediately after oil change, when the weather turned cold one night, after you ran over a dog, what?
