'98 Ltd Hood Replacement - black primer over mismatch hood? spray can options?
I'm replacing a 1998 Ltd hood. Color 1A5- desert dune or warm grey mettallic? I was going to buy a new primed hood but they rust out soon if chipped or left uncoated, which adds another $200 or more.
With the wheels blacked out, I don't mind the primer look so I'm thinking about picking up a used hood in any color, sanding and then giving a black primer coat over the clear coat which will be fully sealed. I don't know if the primer will keep a nice matte finish or get sueded out/ scuffed.
Does this sound like the best approach? If anyone's had luck with a spray can product please advise. There's a harbor freight nearby where I am now and wouldn't mind spending $100 on a sprayer. Once fixed this will be a nice looking ride with 130k on the odo so it's worth spending a bit to do it right.
Thanks!
