98 4Runner will not start - have confirmed all parts are good

My 98 4Runner died while driving and the oil lamp came on. It started again after 30 minutes and ran fine for a few days. The it did it again. I had all parts and engine codes checked with a mechanic and there were no issues. He is saying to take it to Toyota because its due to the factory security system.

All lights etc. work fine but the engine will not even try to crank. Any help would be appreciated.

What engine?
What exactly do you mean when you say 'the engine will not even try to crank'?
Does the starter turn?
Was the oil level checked?

2wd V6.

Yes oil level was checked. When you try to turn on the car it sometimes clicks but others it does nothing. It is almost like the starter has a problem but we checked it and the relays.

Ahh, worn starter contacts are very likely and easy to replace. Search threads.

Fuses, relays, ground wires, all electrical connections.......inspect everything carefully.

So, if I understand it you have two issues:
1) starter will click and not turn over periodically
2) rig dies while running with no check engine light or codes stored?

Has the oil lamp came back on after the initial occurance?
Did the mechanic test any electrical components i.e. crank sensor, cam sensor, etc?

You got it ... I am now where it won't start again. I will have the mechanic check the electrical again. The oil light does come on when you try to start
