I just bought a pair of used oem '01 headlights for cheap off ebay and modded them in my spare time...that way, my 4Runner had no down time what so ever. Sold my stock headlights afterwards.
The retrofit itself is not all that hard. I had never done it before either until doing my own. You learn as you go. I could do it quicker next time around simply b/c I now know what to expect.

projectors really are the way to go.
buttttt..i have a hid kit from ddm tuning which has casper shields on them which give them somewhat of a cutoff. the shields definitely help..its still no match for projectors though

I chose Infiniti FX projectors/Acura TSX lenses for 3 reasons: Price, Bi-Xenon feature & Quality.
As far as Lenses, Do NOT use the FX lenses...as you can tell from my own install, those lenses are junk. I'm very pleased w/ the Acura TSX lenses specifically, but both BMW and Honda make great lenses.

oh okay i see
hmm probably going to do the same then just so i dont seem to run into any problems
hey rock slide do you have any straight to the wall shots of your cut off line?
i was curious the fx/tsx setup does that have the slope cutoff?
thanks
and how do you make it so it has the blue hue to it near the slope?
thanks for all the input

I had cheapy hids with the Casper shields.
The beam was white, but the overall illumination was poor.
I was blinding oncoming traffic.
As there was no advantage, and some guilt, I decided to remove the setup.
The pieces were already hard and cracking and on the verge of failure or fire.
It took only a couple of minutes to return to stock. I'm glad I did!

sorry to jump in, but im actually looking for HIDs for my 96 Limited, are those ebay ones any good? ive seen them from $60 to $200..... also i know its a H4 set up, but do they really just plug in or do i need to modify any wires or something?? thanks

most kits are plug and play. No modifying wires. If you are considering HIDs I would seriously look into gettting the 99+ headlights or your going to blind people worse than what you normally would in a non-projector lens. If you want a good HID system head over to retro solutions. They have awesome kits. I would never settle for an eBay HID kit.. their is a reason why you pay 60$ and it's not a good one.

Search the classified section on the HID Planet forum too...sometimes you'll find good deals there. If nothing else, at least check out their site. They've got a ton of useful info on HIDs.

DDM Tuning has a great kit. i'm currently running their 35w H4 Bi-xenon 6000k kit. works great

I've got an 8K HID kit from Retro Solutions on my '99 4Runner and while it's no where near having projectors I don't have a lot of glare either. If I were you, I would spend your money on a 99-02 headlight conversion. Also, crappy HID kits have a lot to do with the reason why there is glare in a non-projector lens. So when you buy a HID kit make sure you don't just get the "cheapo" ones and get something you know is good. Try this website out http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/servlet/StoreFront. They make full digital HID Kits. I'll try and get some time to go up to building wall one night and take some pics of mine. Good luck with your decision.

Fingers crossed I'm going to get one of my Toyota savy buddies to pull it off for me. But in case it doesn't happen just send me a PM I'll send the box of components down to you
